I hated Gatlinburg, but the kids would probably like it.

Don't eat at Dicks Last Resort. That place is terrible. Zip Lining was pretty fun and since it's winter not a lot of people so an enjoyable experience.

The kids enjoyed hillbilly golf. Of course they also enjoyed Dollywood but that was pretty expensive depending on what your budget it. Also went to smoky mountain opry and the hatfield and McCoy dinner show. The family enjoyed both. Have fun.

Nice quiet time to go, but I never brought children. Hope you actually go into the GSM cause that's really what it's about, right?

Go through downtown Gatlinburg and over the mountain into Cherokee,NC. There's casinos on the Indian reservation there.

Forgot about the aquarium..that was pretty neat. Also, there is a welcome center at the entrance to the smokey mountain national park/exit of the blue ridge parkway where they have some primitive homes and you can watch the big elk eat in the evening. We drove to Asheville and checked out the builtmore estates and took the blue ridge parkway back to gatlinburg. It was great.

I'm going to be there next weekend. Staying at the Lodge at Buckberry Creek. The aquarium in Gatlinburg is nice and GSMNP is top notch. Cades Cove is great even if you just drive around. Firefox mountain has awesome zip lines that your kids and you will really enjoy. There is a restaurant not far from Gatlinburg that you can catch your own trout from their pond and have them cook it. The name escapes me. You will have a good time.

That actually is kind of cool. Even if you're not a knife guy. You say kid... buy him or her a knife. They'll cherish it forever.

I hate that area. Grew up 4 hours away and spent every damned Labor Day weekend there. Cade's Cove is great. The weather won't be ideal, probably. Rent a cabin, build a fire in the fireplace. Let the kid run around in the woods, play in the creek... maybe roast some marshmallows. No need to "do" a lot of shite. Just relax and be.

Visit the Ole SMokey and Sugarlands Distillery on the parkway, both are really cool, skip Davey Crocketts though.

Go to Cades Cove and check out the old cabins and churches.

Eat at The Old Mill.

Visit the Titanic Museum.

Visit The Apple Barn.

Go to Newfound Gap overlook. (it's a bit of a drive).

Take a carriage ride in Pigeon Forge.

Go to Smokey Mtn Knife Works.

There's lots of family friendly things to do there. Don't listen to the haters.

Can be fun to drive thru GSMNP with a picnic lunch and stop at a parking spot by a trailhead or some random attraction, get out, walk around a bit, then break out the eats. Of course, that depends on the temps outside. After lunch take a nature hike down the trail.

We would look for creeks at our parking spot when we did this, for added interest. Once we picnicked beside an old grist mill.
