Question for Drummers

I don't know anything about music but I enjoy all sorts - Alternative, Rock, Country, Pop, etc.
I really enjoy watching Ronnie Vannucci, Jr., of The Killers. He's a showman of sorts and he captures my eye when I watch the band perform. I'm not often captivated by a band's drummer. I may be able to appreciate their playing but I rarely find myself watching the drummers.
So, for you folks who what you're talking about... is Vannucci held in high regard for his playing? Is he average, good, great?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Better than good but not great

He has a relatively simple kit setup but I always thought he did more with less.
Also, as a result of the simple setup he is much more visible to the audience.

I'm a bass player, but this cat is a good stage drummer. Doesn't really do anything technical or complex, just knows how to put on a show at his position.

Good drummer. He has a crazy nice/big kit. 24" bass, 17" or 18" hats, 24" ride.

I prefer these guys.

I always enjoy watching him. He has that simple set up but IMO it usually works better for live situations. Addition by subtraction really. I did the same thing several years ago. Dropped a tom and a couple cymbals and it's done wonders for my technique. Now if I can just drop the damn double bass pedal. Haha

Define simple setup. Vannucci has a big kit (24" bass, rack tom, two floor toms, massive hi hats, a 24" ride and even uses a 20" ride for one of his crashes)

I like drumming my dick on Destrehan teachers' faces

Here is something I have been mulling over: Is the mark of a good drummer raw skill or the ability to support a song?
Take Ringo for example. He gets dumped on regularly but his style of play seemed to perfectly support the music the Beatles were making. Would their songs been better with someone with crazy drumming skill? I think maybe not.

I think a drummer who can support a song is way more impressive than just fast, technical playing. Nothing is better than a drummer who can keep time and lay down a consistent groove.
