ICU nurse at Ochsner Main Campus. Moving to Lafayette in a few months and declined an offer at Lourdes ICU because there was a big dropoff of pay. I know Heart Hospital is a Lourdes affiliate, but wondering if their pay was any better than what they pay at the main hospital on Ambassador. And if you work there or LGMC, any feedback is appreciated.

Also....not sure if they are still very active but I can remember looking on travel nurse forums to get info about possible hospitals I would take assignments at. Maybe you could try looking at those and find out more there...average pay was always a thing discussed on there. Sorry can't remember the name of the one I would look at, been a long time.

My girlfriend works at LGMC as an RN. During school she worked as a tech at Lourdes but didn't like it. She ended up taking a job at LGMC who at the time offered higher pay and night/weekend differential where Lourdes only offered night differential. After she was hired Lourdes went up in pay(believe she said it was only like $0.10/hr more). If I remember correctly she mentioned a couple months ago that Lourdes needed staff ASAP so was offering $40/hr for 6 months with the signing of a contract for 2 years.

I wouldn't expect there to be much difference.

There actually is. Lourdes and the Lake treat their nurses like crap in comparison to other places. Friend told me she works shifts at regional medical center of Acadiana and makes $37/hr and the Lake was paying her $22. She makes the drive to Laffy bc it's worth the difference in pay. Know a lot of nurses at LGMC who love it and yes, they're paid better than Lourdes.

damn. seems like rn salaries have been pretty stagnant. I worked with some rn's that were making in the 30's back in the late 90's.

NWLA is around $24/hr plus .60/hr for every year of experience. 4.00/hr shift diff, 2.00/wknd.

Prn staff 32-42/hr depending on commitment

$23? That's it???

Damn, rates are stagnant

I was making $20(base rate) at woman's when I left LA. That was in 2005.

ETA: and Woman's actually paid better than OLOL....part of why I left OLOL full time. OLOL back then just didn't really treat their nurses that great.

The entire state of Louisiana is equal to the Beaumont area to me. As a nurse you are a dime a dozen. If you are being offered over $35/hr prepare your anus. You are going to a shithole. I dealt with it for 2-3 years. In addition, as was mentioned, you are a dime a dozen. And every semester more are cranked out from all nearby universities. They do not want to pay for experience. So forget many raises. They WANT new grads. The chances of a new grad killing someone are slim enough that they are willing to risk it in exchange for the cash saved.

Hope all works out for you. But if not hit me up. Houston and agencies are always hiring.

Worked with a nurse from that area that worked at Texas Children's. He spoke of that hospital as if it is THE hospital to compare every other hospital to

As for hospitals wanting new grads....that's all over the US. Read this article(esp the comments).

The Baton Rouge market sucks for nursing. I had a position offered to me at the General's ER for $22.50/hr, and I have 3.5 years experience. I know I'm still a baby nurse, but that is what I was making working for Ochsner straight out of school.

Don't get me wrong, nursing is still a good job in Louisiana. If you work OT, close to 6 figures a year is possible.

I'm only spoiled at nursing pay d/t travel nursing in California. I was making double to triple that an hour with doing way less work.

I don't know how it is in Arizona, but nurses in California have it easy. All I really had to do while I was there was chart on my patients. There was staff there to start IV's, draw blood, give meds, transport pt's, do EKG's. You name it, there was someone working that could do it for me instead.

Yeah Cali nurses really have it the best in the US. They make $$$$ and get automatic overtime anytime they work more than 8 hours in a shift. Gotta love them unions. I was a travel nurse years ago and CA was on my list to go...but I ended up never leaving AZ.

I don't have it that easy. AZ nurses make MUCH better money than nurses in the South...but we work hard for it. As a peds nurse...I do all the things you listed below on my own except for EKG's(respiratory does those). Transport depends on age of child and what's going on. Usually though the RN has to do it if CNA isn't able to though.

I actually prefer to do things this way, because I feel things get done much quicker and correctly this way. It's part of feeling like you can provide the best care for your patient.

I always laughed at the some of the staff nurses in California that would spend all their time and effort finding auxiliary staff to do tasks, when they could've done it in half the time.

Yup, but she doesn't have to worry about her hospital closing and being without a job

Back on topic. If the pay in Lafayatte as a staff nurse isn't what you like, try looking into agency nursing. I want to say Gifted Nurses staffs out there. Pay would be about $40/hr.

Pay in Lafayette must be bad since Ochsner isn't the best paying hospital in New Orleans. They are hiring new grads and warm bodies.

Yeah that's only really a threat to the hospital I work at though...that isn't the case for every hospital in this region by far. $23/hr for an experienced nurse is chump change. And don't go on about "cost of living". It doesn't cost twice as much to live here...and that is what an experienced nurse out here would make for their base rate...almost twice that amount. Like I've said before...the South in general (besides Texas) just doesn't pay their nurses well. My years as a travelnurse I met SEVERAL other nurses from other southern states who left to travel because of the horrible pay in the south. California is like the Promise Land for any travelnurse...everyone always hears stories about the great pay and working conditions.

ETA: Look at BR General Midcity....those nurses in the ER will no longer have a job as well, so don't act like LA is immune to closings.

Just like any job(outside of unions) the market is going to determine pay, if I can hire a nurse for $23 why would I soend $40?

There are either more nurses than we need or less need for them.

And cost of living is more out there. What do you think the price difference would be for a 2k sq ft house in Scottsdale and youngsville? I'd say probably double
