If my son realizes his dream and gets a scholarship to LSU to pitch, what are the best areas of academic studies at LSU?

I'm a Mizzou grad and fan and even though I respect LSU's baseball program, I don't know much about the school.

I mean, it's a major university. So, whatever he's interested in.

Engineering, but that may be too much of a pull on him to do that and play ball if he isn't extremely disciplined

Coastal and Environmental Sciences.

Similar to engineering as far a pre-reqs (physics, chem, ochem, series of calculus and stats, etc,), you just don't take the engineering electives.

Engineering is the best program IMO. But unless your son is an engineering wiz, it'll he tough for him to carry the hours and keep up with the work if he wants to go down many of the engineering paths and play baseball.

A lot of the degrees are good. It's a major university. Let he do what he's interested in.

You tell him to just worry about sitting that batter down. The grades will come after

I'm sure his 10 year old travel team was 72-0 last summer, so I'd suggest pre-med

Thank you PG, that's excactly the type of academic challenge that appeals to my boy. He wouldn't be able to find this program at Mizzou. I appreciate your input.

I'd go into some sort of computer science major and go through the LSU internal audit program, taking as many programing, accounting, finance, and audit electives as I could.

If I could do it all over again.

I think the advice for an athlete is similar to anyone else. Ideally, he can pick a discipline that he is passionate about. Someone I knew went General Studies and took almost all of the 4000 level science courses. I think she had a 4.5 in High School though. That kind of thing requires discipline and academic chops to be successful. College is like many things. The more you put in, the more you get out.
