Anyone Else Grow Up With Just 1 TV In the House?

I was talking with my son about it last night, and it blew his mind. We had 1 TV in the living room, and I had 2 brothers and 1 sister. There were some epic battles over what to watch. Mom put a cork board in the kitchen with the TV Guide for the week tacked to it, and you had to reserve a time if there was something you really wanted to watch. Dad had full veto powers though, and exercised them on the reg.
We finally got a 2nd TV in the dining room when mom got us a Nintendo for Christmas around 87, but it didn't have cable.

I was around 5 when we first got a TV. We had only 1 until I was a Junior in High School when my sister and I each got one for our bedrooms. It was at that time that the 1 in the living room was replaced with a color TV.

I did. For some reason I read your post in the narrators voice from a Christmas Story. Especially the part about dad having full veto authority.

I had a friend who's family had a TV in every room...but they were all black and white. You think Atari graphics suck, play it on a Black and White TV, it's even worse. Part of me thought it was cool, but I don't think I'd do the trade off of personal TV for color TV.

There was one "main" TV. Never got to watch the other as it was in my parents' room. That one later became my Dad's "workshop TV" when I was in 2nd grade... That was the gateway TV to having one in pretty much every room in the house.
ETA:
Didn't get cable until 1985 or 1986. 30+ channels PLUS HBO! holycrapamazing

We had one huge console tv... well, I think it was 27 inches, which was huge for the time. You could lay on top of it like a bed. That was it for the longest. Then we got like a little 13 inch black and white for the kitchen. My first TV was a little 5 inch thing that had a built in am/fm radio and tv. Tuner was the same knob for all three, depending on where you set the off/on switch. Used 8 D Batteries. I thought I was the stuff because I could sort of watch Saturday Morning rasslin' in the car on the way to my grandmother's house. Well, until somewhere between Potts Camp and Hickory Flat, MS.. then the signal gave out. Good times.

We had 1 main tv- one of those wood encased console tv's.
When I was 13 I was given a 12" b&w for Christmas, which I was allowed to keep in my room.
Sadly, this was right around when we got cable, so most of what I wanted to watch was on the main tv, plus it was in color. I bought my first real color tv when I was 18 and starting college. At Silo. Who remembers Silo???

We had one TV with an anteanna. 5 channels. That one finally got upgraded so the old one went up stairs for the Nintendo. Still rabbit ears. Was high school or close to it before we got basic satellite package. I remember begging our dad for the extra box for the second tv.

Yeah I remember when we got cable when I was 7 or 8. We went from 4 channels to 12 channels.
CNN, ESPN, TBS, and some religious channel are the only cable channels I remember getting.
The main living room TV was the only one that had cable until we moved my sophomore year of high school when we all got a TV in our rooms with cable.

Yep
1 19" tube TV with 3 channels (NBC, ABC, and LPB) for most of my childhood
I thought we were rich when we got that 32" in HS

We had one tv, one NES, and no vcr for me, my sister, and my mom until I was about 12 or so. My mom didn't have much interest in tv so I always dominated the remote. My sister was younger so she had no say in anything. Later on my grandma gave me her old tv so I could play video games in my room. Not having a vcr was a bigger issue for me and my sister then not having a second tv.

I grew up with 1 black and white television.
We didn't get a color Tv until about 1970.
We didn't get cable until mid to late 80s. So entertainment was pretty much what the 3 networks put on the air.

We had a VCR, but I remember in the early 80's VHS tapes were really expensive so we didn't have any movies. And those early ones like we had couldn't yet record from the TV.
My dad was nerd and only bought the VCR so he could watch the Cosmos series he bought. Those were the only tapes we had for years until the prices started getting more reasonable.

We had one TV up until I was 12 or 13.
It was the big wood encased tv without a remote. I remember as it got older you really had to mash those buttons.

Had no TVs until I was in middle school (I'm 28 now) and that as only because I love sports. Idk if I've ever seen my parents watch anything other than sports on TV.
We had a babysitter who used to bring her own TV and VCR hahah.

This bad boy in the living room. Had one of those antenna that was motorized on the roof and would turn toward Baton Rouge or New Orleans for better reception. We were fortunate enough to pick up channel 2 and 9 in BR and 4, 6, & 8 in NO.

I was 13 when we got our first tv, which was a 13" b&w portable.
