Anyone here use Ketostix to measure your ketone levels?

I'm currently cutting carbs and bought some Ketostix to see when I'm in ketosis. It's been strange though. In the mornings, my strips are dark purple. At night, before bed, the strip is almost colorless.
From what I've read, these results seem like they should be reversed. I'm not eating 20 carbs a day so I'm not sure why there is no color at night.
I do workout and do cardio in the evening and take a preworkout before so maybe that has something to do with it.
Anyone use these or have any suggestions?

Only when the waxing moon aligns with the 3rd nexus on the necromancers calendar. Sounds complicated dude, just practice moderation and exercise.

set 'em up

Ketones only show in urine in the initial phases of ketosis. That test is pointless after you've been in a while as ketones don't always show in urine. Get yourself a breath test for ketones. More accurate. Or start testing your blood.

if you get high ketones you might consider a different diet plan.
i aint a doctor, but i know ketones at high levels are no good

This is utterly false unless you are a type 1 diabetic. Ketones are only a problem if you don't have insulin to regulate them. Thanks for playing though.

so if they arent a problem why check for them?

Ketones are not showing on your evening test because your body is burning them for fuel during the day. Check out bodybuilding competitor, Jerry Ward's channel on YouTube (it's under BIOS3Training) and look for his videos on ketogenic diets. He uses them when he competes and also on his clients. Very excellent real world analysis.

Because low carb dieters want to burn fat and ketones means you are doing just that!

Guide to Ketosis
The Krebs cycle is the basic structure of what your body is doing on a low carb diet. Read the guide to better understand your process.
Also, having your urine tested at an accredited laboratory may be a little costly, but if you want to do this right, that is the way to go. And you will need a doctor's order for the test. You should not just jump into a major diet like this without a doctor monitoring you if you plan on losing significant amounts of weight.
For the record, I have my MS in Clinical Laboratory Science. I don't just read articles on the internet, I deal with this everyday.

This is where I don't understand these diets. Where are you getting the oxaloacetate to burn the fat if you are using a no carb diet? I think I'm forgetting something

Ketostix are mostly useless besides during the first weeks of a ketogenic diet. I've been ketogenic for 7 months but I'll show none or trace in my urine because I'm so adapted.
If want accurate measures, Need to get a blood ketone meter or a ketone breath analyzer

These fad diets are fricking stupid and aren't healthy.
Don't compare yourself or your diet to that of a professional bodybuilder. Talk to any bodybuilder and they will tell you that to compete, you have to get to ridiculously low levels of body fat. You have to torture yourself to get that lean and it's not healthy at all.
An effective diet isn't something you do for a few weeks. It's a lifestyle change that you can sustain for years.

oxaloacetate created from the amino acids thru gluconeogenesis if I recall correctly.

Type 1 Diabetic here. I've been low carbing it now for almost 10 years. I didn't do it to lose weight. I did it to control blood sugar. My A1Cs run in the 5.1-5.3 range and my blood is immaculate. My blood tests are that of a non-diabetic. After 32 years of having the disease, I feel pretty good about where I'm at.
For some of us, this is not a diet, but a way of eating. I agree with you that eating this way to drop a few pounds before a class reunion, etc. is not sensible, but for those who are committed to a complete lifestyle change, I couldn't recommend a better way of eating.

That's what I thought, so aren't those amino acids found from the breakdown of protein, specifically in muscle when carbs are not present? That's unless the person is taking BCAA supplements to deter that.
I remember specifically my Human phys professor telling me no card diets are useless because you can't burn fat correctly without carbs.

Is this a real nutritionist or is he just saying this and letting you take notes on it as fact. Because you can burn fat without carbs. In simple terms, the Krebs cycle is the process your cells use to burn stored fat and create energy. You could also go on a low calorie diet and lose weight. You could also get on a treadmill and lose weight. There are tons of ways to lose weight, but I digress.
