Anemic twice due to hemorrhaging after child birth.

No you won't die if it's borderline. Take the supplement, take it with OJ as the vitamin C is said to help with the absorption of the iron and eat some red meat. Raisins and spinach also have iron in them but you need the heme iron found in red meats.

do you mean "anemic?"

that's just when you have fewer red blood cells than you normally do. there are varying degrees of severity and numerous different causes.

You're prolly gonna be fine.

One question, are you a female?

It should make you feel better, but you better start doing sit ups because there is a chance you will start gaining weight in your midsection.

I wonder about this too. It's not uncommon in females. It's pretty rare in males.

You're not gonna die you just can't give blood. Eat more red meat and take the pills. Girl I know who had it was a vegetarian and I think that is why.

A LOT of people are anemic. It's usually nothing to worry about, but getting things back to normal may give you more energy.

Eat some red meat.

Very common for females to be borderline anemic, not sure about males though. I was told I was once long ago. Not that big a deal. They will tell you to take iron supplements and not donate blood.

Pay attention to the instructions on the iron supplements. It doesn't absorb as well if taken with certain things. Usually best if taken on an empty stomach..but it tends to make your stomach upset so if you can't do that...take with orange juice like someone else already posted.

You can also check your eyelids...easy self test. Pull down on your lower eyelid....if it doesn't pinken up quickly...might be anemic.

yeah, this is prolly nothing, take the iron and repeat a blood count in a few weeks.

I am a bit more concerned about the cold/numb fingers and toes and the fatique.this could represent some form of vasculopathy (someone already said raynauds). If the symptoms don't resolve with the iron supplements, I'd look further into this, looking more specifically for markers of inflammation.

good luck

Did you and your doctor figure out why you were anemic?

Pretty important. Long term iron supplements aren't exactly good for your stomach and beyond.

this is the main thing to figure out. There's more info in the CBC that showed your anemia that can help elucidate the underlying cause of the anemia, but I doubt you have that handy and you prolly don't want your personal health info all over the interwebz. just follow up with you MD.

and don't forget, relax, breath, smile
