Players hold team meeting (with coaches too)

After losing a pivotal game Wednesday to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where they got exposed defensively and executed poorly in the fourth quarter, the New Orleans Pelicans' players deemed it necessary to hold an open-floor meeting amongst the themselves and the coaches Thursday.
Small forward Quincy Pondexter said they spoke about holding each other more accountable, figuring out ways to defend better as a group and raise their sense of urgency before seeing the Thunder again in another pivotal game on Friday night in Oklahoma City.
''I think we came up with a great strategy and we looked ourselves in the mirror,'' Pondexter said about their meeting on Thursday. ''The open-floor meeting was like we've got to know how to figure out how to contain people.
''We're the people out there on the floor, so we know what it's going to take as a group to get those stops. This is something that great teams do - holding each other accountable and really being honest with each other.''

More at the link. This doesn't sound like it should be unusual, but player lead accountability obviously is an area we were lacking in before. I guess this is like when Demps hired actual scouts. Yay QPon

When we fire Monty at the end of the year we can just hire QPon as player-coach

I've been down about that loss all day. I'm glad things are being addressed WITH the coaching staff this time.
Things I hope players addressed:
Why does Ryno get so much playing time down the stretch instead of Cunningham?
Why is Asik a clumsy SOB?

Gravity. The play that let us retake the lead at 86-85 was an alley oop from Reke to AD that Wesely pointed out at the time was made available because Ibaka had to stay close to Ryno. Then the 3 Ryno knocked down to go up 91-89 was the same play only this time Ibaka stayed closer to AD leaving Ryno open.
And then the Pels didn't score again for 5 minutes and 39 seconds

In a stubborn breeze
A leader cuts through the air
Fly Pelicans, sons

QPon's value to this team has been immeasurable. To think we have him for 3 more years between $3.3-3.8mil each year. Friggin steal for what this team needs mentally and emotionally.

People were mad when we traded for him because we'd be stuck with him for 3 more years.

Newsflash: the teams we've beaten since QPon's been here probably would've lost to us anyway. He isn't moving the needle whatsoever

Between his injuries and his value being tied to so many "intangibles" we just didn't have much information to work with. He shut everyone up pretty quickly with a good first game.

Oh right, how could I forget that god-tier 29% from 3pt or 37% overall?

If the roster were more than 6 deep to start the season then maybe you could dismiss him like you're doing. But the roster wasn't more than 6 deep to start the season. Pondexter and Cunningham change the way the team plays completely because they know what to do and where to be. If you trade in those 2 to give more minutes to Rivers/Babbitt/Salmons no way do we beat the Clippers or the Hawks. Is Pondexter getting too much love because we've gone from terrible to average? Yes, but that doesn't mean you need to try and take a shite on him to balance it out. Let the people be happy that we have average rotation players instead of fringe NBA players.

FIFY ATL. Also right now this team is not "average" just because we lost to OKC, in my opinion.

I was referring to the rotation players there, not the team. Just saying we now have normal rotation players, not bad rotation players like we started the season with. And AD is probably gushing about him for the same reasons. Pondexter may not be a great player but he's a great fit.

It's about defense, not his offense

Crazy to think this is the same guy who was openly talking shite to his coach on the court last season and there were rumors that the team felt like they made huge mistake putting one of the rookie's locker next to him.
Happy to see the change of scenery seems to be working out for him.
Seems to have brought that winning culture to New Orleans

Last night was super frustrating. Have to admit, though, RW is fun as hell to watch.

If that's true it won't be long before he is on Monty
