I'm pumped already.

“In development” is a vague phrase that could mean anything from “we’re having serious conversations with the studio” to “we got drunk and joked about it once.” In this case, though, it’s clear Stahelski and Leitch have given it some serious thought.

John Wick was one of the pleasant surprises of 2014, a stylish and relentlessly entertaining thriller that made perfect use of Reeves. Critics and audiences alike took note, spurring the $20 million movie to gross $78 million worldwide. While a sequel isn’t inevitable, it seems quite likely.

For Stahelski and Leitch, however, the challenge of a John Wick 2 isn’t going bigger and better, but staying true to the character. Explained Stahelski:

I never saw the first one. I'm assuming by your post you are saying that I should probably watch it?

Been wanting to watch it. Buddy of mine said it was fantastic. Now if we could just get a Dredd sequel.

I didn't like this movie, but I can appreciate the choreography and style

I wish they still made practical action movies (or at least more practical)

It's one of my favorite action movies of the last decade or so. Pure style and violence, without being too artsy like a Wending-refn movie or too gory like an Eli Roth or Tarantino movie.

People gave it hell for it's plot, but I thought the plot made perfect sense. If you read a review that says it was bad because the guy goes on a rampage because of the death of his dog, ignore it. The dog is symbolic of much more than itself and once you accept that fact, it becomes way more believable that this guy, who already has some portion of himself tethered to the underground assassin world, would lose his shite and jump full tilt into it again.

This and Dredd are exactly what you want in an action movie: enough plot and character to make it believable and to invest in it, but clearly meant to showcase the violence that ensues for the catharsis of the audience.

Watch it on Blu-ray with a massive TV and surround sound at night with a whiskey drink.

Man, from reading that, it sounds like Reeves may not be in for the next one, if there is a next one. That would suck. He was great in that role.

If they do a second one and Reeves isn't on board, I hope they don't recast Wick. I hope they just explore another assassin within the world of assassins they have created.

I agree with you 100% on this. Great summation.

Too bad if Keanu doesn't come back if there would be a sequel. As you said, he was excellent.

Fantastically fun movie.

Guy goes on a rampage over grief from his wife's death. The dog was the only thing holding him together.

Once the dog was gone, he was able to channel his grief through rage.

I don't watch action flicks. I grew tired of them years ago but I LOVED this movie.

I hate in movies when someone knocks a person out or down and then moves to the next bad guy. I loved how Wick made sure they weren't getting back up.

Will only watch sequel if Reeves is back.

Before watching the movie, I gave it zero chance.

i was amazed how people didnt understand the symbolic significance of the dog, and not just it being a dog. Hell my GF understood the the reasoning was more than just them killing a dog.

For the truly dense, there's a scene that specifically spells out his motivations. It's absurd that some "professional" critics kept talking about it being a revenge movie over a dead dog.

I think they understood, but they were too committed to criticizing the movie to allow themselves to view it objectively. Or all they saw was the preview and wanted to look cool so they just kept bitching based on that limited info alone.

Don't fret.

In my Wick thread I did have one or two beefs with the movie.

All is right in the world.
