Just finished season 1 and that might have been one of my top 5 first seasons to a show ever.

Freaking loved it.

I think that's actually great. I wish more shows were shorter and wrapped up one or two story arcs in one season. I think it's very difficult to sustain interesting storylines over long periods of time and so many "great" show end up sucking at the end.

It's a weird name and you don't know what to make of it. It's also pretty well worn territory, how can they make more gangsters fresh and entertaining? They do it with a great cast and great acting.

i watched episode 1 after a 10hr work day and it just didnt do it for me, though I wasnt paying total attention because i was tired as frick. i need to give it another chance. Knight is a top notch writer and I know better than to doubt him. I will watch it again this weekend and press on.

i do remember the music bugging me, though

I loved the music, although it certainly isn't true to the period

Nick Cave is awesome and I will never not like his music, no matter if it doesn't fit the setting

i was so used to the period music from my beloved Boardwalk, so it kind of threw me off. ill get used to it. you and several other valued M/TV opinions liked it, so ill def watch the first season, at least. ill report back upon rewatch of Ep 1

Give it another chance. The pacing is a bit slow, so I can see how it wouldn't grab you, but the characters are really good. They end up making you want a bunch of murderous street thugs to win the day.

It bugged me at first too having modern music with a period show, but once you get used to it you see that the music compliments the show pretty well.

And normally that kinda of anachronism would bother me but its done so well here that it works.

Aunt Polly and Tommy Shelby are both really great characters acted by brilliant acters. Heart of the show.

No doubt. He's the muscle. I actually think John is really underrated. He is criticized for not being the best leader, but he is a good combination of Thomas and Arthur in my opinion.
