I'm heading to New Iberia from Lake Charles for business today and was wandering where I could get a good plate lunch or burger around the Lafayette area not too far from hwy 90. I'll be by myself so I'll be in and out. Thanks for the suggestions.

UPDATE:
Went to Old Tyme Grocery and got a whole shrimp po boy. Very very good! Shrimp were big and fried just right and the bread was fresh. Very simple but very good.

Old Tyme Grocery. Great poor boys. Unless they changed recently, no credit cards I think.

ETA: not plate lunch or burger, but delicious

For a good burger I would recommend Fat Pat's off of Verot School Road. For a plate lunch I would recommend Abacus on Pinhook. They do a buffet that will get you in and out fairly quickly.

What about T. Coon's, Ham? I've enjoyed every lunch I've eaten at Little Coon's.

It's pretty good. The only bad experience I had there was when I went for a late lunch (1:30) and the quality had significantly fallen off under the heat lamps.

Highway 90 runs directly through Rayne. If you will be around there, there is not a better burger or plate lunch then Gabes. Fantastic fried chicken too.

IMHO, Fat Pat's is mediocre. They are great because of the toppings, dogs, and beer selection. If I wanted a burger IN Laf, it would be Judice Inn although you have to get at least two to fill you up (with grilled onions ). Neither of those places, including Southside/Twins can compare to Gabes. As far as plate lunches go, Country Cuisine on University is comparable, but still not better than Gabes either.

Cafe Kimball on 90. Near Le Triomphe

Lots of plate lunches, and the best burger in town. Ask for the Aussie Burger

Good choice. Just be sure to bring cash as they don't accept cards

Off the top of my head:

Creole Lunch House
Leboufe's
Laura's II
Landry's Cafe

Probably in a good order as well

ETA: "Shade tree cafe baw"
I still need to check this place out. Top of my list for our next trip to Laffy.
