Wife and I love to use those 225 coupons to try new restaurants. She picked up one today for this place and was curious how good it was. I love Italian food...how would this place measure up to places like Digulious?...or Gino's?
Thanks.

From what I hear, it won't come anywhere near their level.

But I haven't been.

I'm sure it's not inedible

Ok...and that kind of what I was thinking. Figured I would have heard of it before if it was on that level....thanks!

No. It's passable old time neighborhood restaurant fare, though. It's basically a clone of Mandina's in NO, if you've ever been there.

Went there a few weekends ago. Havent been to Marcello's since it was at its old location by the Bulldog. It was a lot worse than I remember it being at that location. Food was ok but service and general feel was unimpressive.

Yeah, the Marcello's that was by Bulldog moved to New Orleans. And it is doing very well there.

The place reminds me of the old Giamanco's here in BR.

Most everything seems freshly prepared as if you made it yourself. The menu is pretty wide ranging - a good hamburger, good lasagna, fried fish, etc. It's easy with a mixed crowd or kids. I think it's a lot better than the Mandinos that opened here post K.

It's not high end, but during the week I like a place you can get a quality, predictable meal and not break the bank.

My family gets take out from there on occasion and most of the things I've tried are decent-good. The lasagna is the best dish I've tried. The veal Marsala was the only thing I tried that I did not care to eat again. It does not hold a candle to Gino's or frankly even Carrabba's as far as Italian dishes go .Their menu is only about a 1/3 Italian.

It kinda reminds me of that place on the Westbank.

DiMartinos? Something like that.

I've eaten their food often because it is close to my house. Like other posters said, it's consistent, decent to good food at a good price. My gf and I will usually get either the lasagna, ck parm, or spaghetti 'to-go' and split the dish. It is plenty for two, if one is a relatively light eater.

My only complaint is the atmosphere. It still has that early 90's Calenders feel to it and that needs to change. The only change I've noticed from those times was that they removed the memorial plant near the front entrance that honored the manager that was killed there way back when.

Agreed. The food was pretty good when I went and the wine prices were reasonable. But the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Like a ton.

These things should never all be served at the same restaurant. This alone talked me out of ever going

Ehh, it's a throwback sort of menu of what you'd find in New Orleans neighborhood joints 50 years ago (and also sort of what his father's old BR lunch place used to be - the Bread Basket). It's basically the local/regional equivalence of a NYC diner restaurant.

It's not trying to do any of that stuff great, but good and consistently.

I agree with what others are saying about the atmosphere. It's a bit odd in the old Calendar's setting.
