Free agent running back from the Pats. Without putting in the research, I have no idea what he's projected to cost and if we could fit him in. But he's a running back in the mold of Pierre Thomas. I think we can all agree that our offense was better with Thomas in there. But PT is going to be durng 31 next season.

Vereen reminds me of what Thomas does. This past season he had 391 rushing yards and 447 receiving. I know addressing running back is way down on the list of areas to fix, but it was just a thought for discussion sake.

Interesting thought and I could see CSP using him like Thomas. But like you said, he's turning 31. He'd have to sign for substantially cheaper that Thomas and I wouldn't want him for more than a year. He'd be a good stop gap for the right price.

Love him.

His PFF scores have him consistently in the positive for ball catching.
Do we think Cadet is good enough in that role?
PFF thinks Vereen is better, even this year when his score was relatively lower.

If we lose Ingram then I think he is a viable option, although not a replacement as they are different kinds of backs. Vereen would likely excel in our offense as he is a phenomenal receiver for a RB. I would suspect we could get him cheaply so I would welcome him. With that said, I don't think RB is a position of need unless we lose Ingram.

Wait, I can't tell who you're talking about.

Vereen is like 26.
Thomas is turning 31.

I think Ingram will be back. I was persuaded by that thread which listed all the free agent RBs that are going to glut the market this offseason. He won't get a better deal elsewhere.

Then what's your point?

Vereen isn't a great pure runner.
He'd probably be worse than Ingram and Robinson.

The thing is, Vereen isn't really an Ingram replacement. In the case of Ingram leaving, we'd need Khiry to step up and fill that role. Its just like Khiry and Ingram/Thomas. They bring different skillsets to the offense.

Point is that unless spots open up in our backfield then there likely isn't a spot for Vereen. Additionally, my point is that under that scenario he wouldn't be a replacement in kind for Ingram.

Is that a little easier for you to understand?

Turns out I understood all along.
I was just hoping there was more insight there.

would not be bad assuming we lose ingram but we should be focused on keeping ingram. Vereen is too much of a PT clone.

He was the guy they got with the pick that we gave them for Mark Ingram. Would be interesting if they switched teams now.

He'd be a great fit with us but it all depends on the $$. We need to sign a guy like him or Helu, especiallyif Ingram is gone. If we can't afford to bring in a vet than we'll need to address this via draft

Vereen would be a huge upgrade over Cadet but he isn't the same caliber overall back like PT is. I would rather pay the extra cash though for Reggie if available.

I think he's a good player no doubt. Could be interesting if the saints go after him

I'd rather have Bobby Rainey. He is younger (27 years old) and you take him from a division opponent. He would fill that Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles position we were lacking last year.

244 rushes, 972 rushing yards, 6 rushing TDs, 48 receptions, 361 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs.
