Saints players' highschool ratings

According to the Times Picayune:
All together 32 Saints players had 2 stars or were unranked (about one half of the team). Most of those were unranked including Drew Brees, Marques Colston and various other starters. 73% of the team had ratings of 3 stars or below. There are only two 5-stars on the team---Robert Meachem and Ronald Powell.
Should we sign more lower rated prospects?

If you want to end up 7-9, sure.

any given year the # of low rated/unranked players far outweigh the # of ranked players thus giving a bigger probability of seeing a low ranked/unranked player on a NFL roster

Actually the Seahawks and Pariots had no 5-stars on their teams.

Hasn't the way prospects are evaluated and ranked vastly changed?

Would've been fascinating if someone would've posted this over the last 2 weeks.

And how many National Champions had no 4 or 5 star players? How many National Champions consistently finish outside of the top 10 in recruiting?
The answer is zero.
The answer is zero.

You should look up the studies on the correlation between 4/5 stars on your roster and winning percentage at the college level. The higher percentage of blue chips on your roster, the higher your expected win total is. It's that simple.
Or, you could keep looking at things that have nothing to do with college football.

These aren't directly related issues. It's like saying 1+1=C.

Stupid thread.
The Saints problem is evaluating talent when they have to draft in the 1st few rounds.

This has to be a troll. How many times do we need to see this stupid sh1t? Why don't you look at how many 4/5 star players have been on the last 10 NCAA championship teams and not the NFL? Then you will have your important statistic.

As I have posted multiple times..., over 40% of 5 stars play in the nfl, and many that don't make it are because of grades, etc.
That means there are only 15 or so 5 stars in the draft. There are 7 rounds. So yes there are more other stars than 5 stars..........

Stupid comment!
The prior comment by "tke857" is the right answer---it's all math!
Any Saints player would have been a 4 or 5 star recruit if their destination (success in getting to the NFL) had been known when they were in highschool.

The Saints had ZERO players from LSU and that's why they sucked!!!

You mean...there's not enough 5 stars for all nfl times to fill an 85 man roster..??
No way lol

Go back to the list of 2005 signees. Pick a random group of 25 three star players. Then compare their careers to the 25 five star players. You will see that the five star guys do one helluva lot better.

I have to strongly agree with TheFinalWord. Much tougher evaluating 17/18 year olds than young 20-22 year olds and mistakes are made at that level too.
Almost all 4 and 5 star guys would be drafted if their HS evals were correct. Unfortunately it is a 50/50 proposition at best. Also, if 3 and less guys out of high school were all correctly evaluated, the ones that became pros would be 4 stars or higher. This process is far from perfect, but you increase your odds dramatically by going for the higher rated players, knowing that many of them will disappoint. You just don't know which ones.
