Buddy that does tax consulting told me that the new white house budget proposal has a section to elminate the tax dedection for charitable contributions that are a prerequisite for purchasing college sporting event tickets.

I have Tennessee season tickets and have heard the same thing regarding our Tennessee Fund donations. Sucks.

Would that include church contributions?

for a government that does many things that i do not agree with, i do not find this this to be an unreasonable change to the tax code. it is obvious that this "charitable donation" is nothing more than disposable income spent on entertainment.

Honestly, if the donation is essentially mandatory for someone purchasing football tickets, that does seem like kind of a silly loophole in the tax code. That's a "charitable donation" in name only, it's really a fee in order to purchase the right to buy tickets.

You can always code it as promotion or entertainment. Those still exist in the business tax codes unless those have been changed.

Tiger Stadium is considered a chapel to some so LSU needs to get church tax status.

That doesn't do much good for people.

From most news accounts, this budget is a pipedream on Obama's part. Can not see this becoming a problem.

I fully believe that calling it a "donation" and allowing a percentage to be tax deductible was just a ploy by the Universities to help the buyers stomach the fees. It didn't hurt them in any way to have it qualified as such so they didn't care.
