4th and 2...he should have punted

Ehhhh, wrong!!!! Nice try. LenDale White was running all over Texas. Pete went for it on 4 and 1 with LenDale and Texas just committed everything on that side where he was effective and stopped him. Reggie Bush fukked up in that game with the lateral. He didn't blow by not running it in that game vs Texas

I agree with the central premise though...reggie bush is one of the best rbs in college football history and despite what people remember he had over 100 yards in the game...if you're going for it on 4th and 2 you give it to reggie freaking bush

with everyone so close to the line, there was a good chance he houses it. Man, reggie was a fricking stud. Loved watching him play

A lot of people forget that Lendale White was also in the backfield for the USC Trojans in that Rose Bowl game. He had 124 yards rushing in that game and was averaging over 6 yards per carry.

Texas had not shown any ability to stop White that entire game. I would have gone for it, too, if I had been in Pete Carroll's shoes that night.

4th and 2, you agree going for it. they didn't even need to stop vince young, just let time run out...he could move the ball, so long as he didn't move it into the endzone.

giving him a 40 yard head start was mind numbingly stupid

That call was the correct call. VY was Mr. Comeback that year and Carroll knew he had to go for it. I totally agreed with that play call in the Rose. LenDale White was so effective that night. All they needed was 1 yard and they didn't get it.

White was 20 carries at 6.2 and Bush 13 for 6.3. Bush also had 6 receptions for 95 yards. Ball was almost perfectly distributed between the two. I'd go Bush though as he was a threat to do anything at that level. With White you knew what was coming.

it would've been the correct call if there was a lot of time left...a first down would've won the game because there was almost no time left

young crossed the goal line with what 5 seconds left?

it was 100% the incorrect call. Since young was so good, there was no need to spot him 40 yards considering the time on the clock

one of the all time biggest bone headed calls

his only blemish was a fumble on a short pass he almost took to the house

he was more effective than white, he was the best player in college football, he is still one of if not the best college football player ever...you give reggie bush the ball if you're going to run it on 4th and 2 instead of punting

This. Like a poster said above, the D sold out to White's most effective side, and that's exactly where they ran it. Absolutely no way to do that with Bush.

Texas/ VY scored on 4th and 5 with about 30 secs to go on the clock. They milked some clock too on that drive as well. It wasn't like they squeaked under the bell here.

The biggest problem with Pete's call in the Rose Bowl was not actually going for it and giving the ball to Lendale, but failing to even have Reggie on the field. Multiple TX players over the years have talked about how not having Reggie on the field let them stuff the box and get ready for a Lendale run.

BINGO.

Not using Reggie as a decoy was the issue. The playcall was the correct one at the time.

One of the dumbest things I've ever seen on a football field. If I recall correctly, it was a huge play already and a score on that drive may have broken Texas' back earlie in the game from an emotional standpoint. Instead, UT stays alive and we have history.
