Is this possible?
I've never had a good one with a case and lenses, etc.

This is for amateur photos. Thanks in advance.

you can get a DSLR from Canon or Nikon for that range. Decent entry camera at the least.

High end point and shoot unless you need something else (digital SLR)

Sony RX 100. Any of the versions, really. Pocketable and takes pictures that approach what average photographers do with a digital SLR.

Pretty easy use?
I have zero experience taking pictures and focusing, etc.

Cannon Rebel T3i with a couple starter lenses will be around that price. I'll look up a link.

I got the Cannon Rebel T3i with three lenses, a bag, and a card for $600. That was a while back. You can probably find that or a better deal online.

Would you trust eBay?

This is what I have at $499 and I searched for 5 seconds on Amazon. Do a little searching and I bet you can find a package with some lenses. I would trust Amazon. I would trust ebay as well if the seller has a good rating and you use PayPal (there is some buyer protection). Hell, I bought a $3k watch using PayPal online. Just have to research the seller and use PayPal.

on a similar note. im looking to get a camera for my trip, a friend suggested a gopro, as it takes HD video and still takes a good picture.

would you recommend a $400 gopro or $400 camera

The video aspect seems cool but its the camera good enough?

How much video will you take? Unless it is at least 50% video to still, I'd get a dedicated still camera that can do some video.

Go pros have a fairly wide angle of view. You have to be closer than you think for the perspective to make sense. They would work fine on your hat for a roller coaster or something like that.

I use high grade Pentax equipment. However, you want the Sony that others have recommended. It is a great beginner's camera.

if I had the go pro I would take more videos just because, but I will be taking a lot of pictures.

I just offered a guy on eBay $250 for the Sony.
Some are going for $600.
It's got a lot of great reviews.
