So how is this different from Chief? This happens hundreds of times a year in the coaching carousel. Miles said on the 22nd that he did not have any feelings about A&M going after Chavis, that all his coaches were high quality and had opportunities....(and when the heck was he going to hear from Michigan?)

Seattle's DC left for a HC position with a team in a different conference. Chavis left for another DC position with a team in our division.

ETA: Nobody had a problem with Pelini leaving for the HC position at Nebraska.

The biggest difference is that one was done in full disclosure and blessing of the former franchise and the other was done behind the scenes.

One was a breach of contract and the other was not.

One was a a step up, the other a lateral move.

You can't know this unless you are on the inside. It's all about energy, attention to details, and a ton of minutia.

The point is they both coached the final game when they were already heading to a new job. It happens all the time.

Chavis would have stayed if Alleva had taken out the Miles clause and they had weeks to do it.

Left for a coaching UPGRADE? That's no different to you? This is absolutely idiotic.

There was no breach of contract until Chavis sent in his letter of resignation in January.

When Chavis told them he was going to leave for A&M, if Alleva asked for 24 hours to see if he could match it I am sure Chief would have given it to him. From the sounds of it Chief gave Alleva more than enough time to get into the ballpark contract wise.

Chief handled it very unprofessionally is the issue. There should be an "off limits" time to talk or think about leaving and his dumb arse was on the phone with A&M in the minutes leading up to the bowl game. He owes it to his players to be engaged with them in that time and he let them down big time. People leave jobs all the time, but don't pretend he did not royally frick his players who put it on the line for him daily.

It was painfully evident in the game that the D wanted no part of it. So sad that lack of effort caused by his actions cost the entire team that game, but it is what it is. Good riddance to his arse for doing it the way he did.

In every way imagineable other than they are both moving to a new state. That very well might be the only similarity. Not quite sure how you came to your conclusion.
