Tarpon OP, chalk it up to a life lesson. Though you explained your position to the salesperson, you still signed the form and left it with him/her. The salesperson indeed violated your trust, but perhaps that trust was misplaced. It may have been inadvertent (another person in the business office processed the form instead of leaving it in a pending state) or it may have been out of pure ignorance (he/she doesn't actually understand that a credit inquiry will show up on a report).
But you now know that you should not trust a furniture store employee to handle your financial affairs. Retain control of your info and of the situation, regardless of whether it's a furniture store, car dealership, or bank. Poorly trained clerks and tellers can always sink your ship. I can't tell you how many times I've encountered bank employees who knew less about financial matters than your average corner dealer.

I am. I won't be doing this again if I'm ever in the same situation.
And I'm pretty sure it happened when they handed it over to the clerk because the salesperson walked away and then came back and snapped at the clerk when she walked behind her at the computer and said that this was supposed to be a "blank app" or something and they would just hold it. Now at this point she either didn't think that anything was put through or she just didn't want to tell me that they screwed up.
Hopefully it's the former. I'm not too concerned with it because I was told by my mortgage guy it wouldn't hurt. I just want the store to be aware of the situation so it doesn't happen to someone who it could screw out of a house. And if they offer a discount because of their issue then I will gladly accept.
I'll find out when they call me this morning.
