Posted by MeatHammer09 everything happening now with this contract is national now. all local issues are agreed upon and nothing was do with any kind of money/benefits. idk where yall get the whining from bc its not from around here in SoLa. if there is a strike about money/benefits it is usually coming from the national level and not local. I for one am very thankful and appreciative of what the union offers and has done for us. the USW on the national level is where you get the money hungry people from. us here, locally, would be happy with keeping the same thing as the last contract.

So tell national to go suck a goat dick

IMO, i believe we should hire only from the contractor pool. they are more qualified than someone off the street who was "selling insurance at 100% commission". they are more familiar with the whole "plant life" atmosphere and knows more about the job they are applying for and not just looking at it bc they will make 100k+.

I haven't seen the requests from the union side. Were there any regarding safety? Serious question.

Formal public statement from VP of USW Oil Workers regarding strike issues ...

quote:

This work stoppage is about onerous overtime; unsafe staffing levels; dangerous conditions the industry continues to ignore; the daily occurrences of fires, emissions, leaks and explosions that threaten local communities without the industry doing much about it; the industry’s refusal to make opportunities for workers in the trade crafts; the flagrant contracting out that impacts health and safety on the job; and the erosion of our workplace, where qualified and experienced union workers are replaced by contractors when they leave or retire--USW International VP Gary Beevers

This statement is pretty much status quo & typical of most striking unions' statements. The details & real issues being negotiated are certainly different.

Average cost of living Increase in La is 1.5-3% per year not 6% - 90/10 insurance is a thing of the past costs have risen 10-45% in the past 2 years, pay a little more like the rest of us, why does the company have to pay you $7500 as a "signing bonus" when you already are employed by them - this is why your unions get a bad rap because they aren't aligned with the rest of the economic world and are greedy as frick for even demanding this kind of stupidity.

Again, if you're one of the ones working a day job, STFU. O/G workers sacrifice a lot.

Exactly what the BR facility told Gary Beavers three years ago when the union members voted 80% in favor of just extending the agreement already in place.

Right, just like those who chose the professions they are in that don't get regular pay raises. If you don't work in O/G industry, you should STFU.

I agree with you there. And again. BR Exxon doesn't have to worry about anything for a few months.

So do medical staff working in a hospital. We sacrifice a lot and hold people's lives in our hands. And we don't get any of those things you are whining about not getting. Like I said...I would be THRILLED to even get a 2% cost of living raise right now. I haven't received ANY kind of raise in several years. And bonuses??? Unless you count the coffee mug with the hospital logo on it I got for nurse's week as a "thank you". Hell....many hospital workers are nervous about keeping their jobs right now with how much Obamacare has frickED us up.
