Probably the real reason for the price in oil drop. Just in time to play the poor me card for the refiners. Once the contracts are signed...away we go!

So, you are fine with oil refiners making the same margins, if not higher off your back? Again, relate oil refiners to the rise and fall of oil prices recently.

It would be best if they don't reach a deal.

All the people who will be laid off from the Oil Field would greatly like a job I am sure.

bullshite - if 75% of the workforce wanted to be working they wouldn't have signed a Union card - they all love the money and union benefits until they are out of work because of it.

You must not realize how many are "in the union" who have no choice.

Brah, most people can tell you all about the union from back when there weren't in it.

Also, Fox News does an accurate job of describing it for them.

I could give a damn about the margins because my investments are not 100% in O&G its called MY profitability in MY business not the oil field workers employment.

Alright, so what is your beef against this contract negotiation?

Thank god someone picked up on my ruse.
You win for checking my math that was quick!. yes the yield is not gonna help as much as firing 6 guys get rid of their 3 vans sell 5 more replace 5 gas guzzlers with sprinters in a leases & raise prices 8%
The union should take what they can get we all need our jobs & efficiencies are important. If you are a worker and you think the union is doing whats in your best intrest and you cannot possibly survive on what you were earning last year & dont feel safe then go grab a sign.

They renew their contract every 3 years. It's just a coincidence that oil is in the gutter this time around

After briefly scanning this thread (not reading pages of ppl's "philosophies"), I thought I'd post the specific details of why they are striking, according to the USW Oil Workers FB page. My apologies if redundant. ... Also, although the specific details of Shell's offers in negotiations (there have been 5 up to this point) have not been made public, they have been called "insulting" by the union reps & have been rejected.

quote:

This work stoppage is about onerous overtime; unsafe staffing levels; dangerous conditions the industry continues to ignore; the daily occurrences of fires, emissions, leaks and explosions that threaten local communities without the industry doing much about it; the industry’s refusal to make opportunities for workers in the trade crafts; the flagrant contracting out that impacts health and safety on the job; and the erosion of our workplace, where qualified and experienced union workers are replaced by contractors when they leave or retire --USW International VP Gary Beevers

No. I was to busy giving a shite about the $3.75+/ gallon price of diesel cause I drive one of those
I'm not marginalizing the benefits of cheaper fuel. Hell it'll benefit the people who get laid off too. I'm pointing out that the effect lower oil prices has isn't just lower fill up expenses and it isn't something people ( at least in Louisiana) can assume won't effect them. It will.
You may save $500K on your fleet expenses, but you may find it's not so beneficial after all if business slows down and your fleet sits idle.

BTW, you didn't pass the operating expenses you incurred on to your customers?

it's a lot easier for a big company to negotiate with one workforce than tens of thousands of individual employees. lowers transactional costs

While this may be true in some cases, I've found since our plant went union in 2002, companies spend more resources managing against a contract as opposed to being 100% focused on managing against the business.
