X's and O's his play calling and set ups are atrocious not to mention we don't have any inbound set up plays unless we do have plays and the players are just not fighting to get to the spot

Seems to be a theme for big sports coaches at LSU: Great recruiters -- mediocre gameday coaches

It's too simple to just blame the coach. It just seems like the team is missing a slasher/scorer and needs better free throw shooting.

Wtf does he do in practice?

I can't think of one thing that works well on the court. You have to PRACTICE to get better shooting

I mean obviously since he's the head coach, Johnny Jones always has to get some blame, but it's not like he has a ton to work with. He has no depth.

While I agree with this, we have no one that can penetrate the zone and handle the ball without turning it over.

Yeah, we have issues with that, but I think Gray can do it if pushed. I've seen him do it well at times, but it's not usually until late in the game. He has an issue with turnovers like you alluded to, but I think we need him to try and score a little more as well. He's capable.

But Martin is NBA ready though
This may come as a shock, but they have coaches in the NBA... timeouts too.

How can you say it's not? If you can't coach an offense to penetrate the zone in some shape or form you're in a world of trouble.

Anyone mention our inability to inbounds ball under our own basket? Jones misses a lot of detail. Unexpected from a former point guard

He has plenty to work with. He just doesn't know how to. Almost any coach in D-1 could make use of the talent that Jones leaves on the bench.

As far as I can tell, 75% of the purpose of a sports message board is to blame the coach for everything.

JJ is not a good coach. Just accept it.

21 missed shots in the paint and 10 missed free throws is all on the players. The bad move by JJ, IMO, was not protecting Mickey's injury with more zone play. Patterson missing in action is still huge also.

Musselman Jr was brought aboard to supposedly dress up JJ and his Staff's X&O deficiencies.. But, I'm not really seeing it.

Johnny is different that Dale in many ways, which I'm good with, but one thing of the things of his mentor I think he could emulate, Dale would delegate. I think Johnny is more hands on...much more. I wish he'd delegate more.

And I'll say the responsibility should be equally shared. The sloppiness for example goes IMHO on both. Players making poor decisions and coaches not instilling the discipline to make progress on improving this.

I don't know why people talk about 2 of LSU players going to NBA, they are not even better than Miss State players.

bayoubengal225: I'm with you on this one. How many missed layups? How many missed free throws? How many air balls did Quarterman shoot? So far this year I have seen better sets and better coaching from Johnny Jones than I did for many years watching Dale Browns teams. How many unforced turnovers? This is every frickin game! The coach can't pass the ball or dribble the ball for his players. Gray has been a turnover machine all season. With Patterson out Johnny was limited as to what line-up he could put on the floor. Patterson is a very good player and he doesn't turn the ball over. His minutes and defense were sorely missed today. But when players miss free throws late in a close game, you can expect to lose.

Because he doesn't know how to coach a team to beat the zone. My 7th grade basketball coach taught us that.
