Already thinking of next year. I got to hunt out of a fiberglass one on one trip this season that was pretty sweet, but pricey. Any recommendations?

If you've got the time and the skill I say build it yourself. You'll appreciate it much more and save some serious $

I'm about to build another one. I like building myself so I can custom it to the spot I'm placing the stand and also make it the perfect size.

Over the years the fiberglass will pay for itself. As long as you don't mind dropping it off the platform and moving it.

I wont but one because I don't want to screw with hauling it thru the woods I like to hunt, and I am not sure I am staying in the same lease past next year.

Very few folks build one out of wood that is ever moved.

Building will save you money, and you can build it exactly how you like

I'm about to build a new one also. Biggest decision for me right now is size. It is going to be for my daughter and I to hunt out of, and I can't decide if I want to go 4x6 or 4x8. I personally say build your own though. Last one I built was pretty decked out. Insulated, vented, sliding windows, and a holder for the 5 gallon propane bottle.

The cost difference to buy one is too rich for my blood. I don't mind spending double or something, but prefab deer blinds are ridiculous.

$300 vs $1500?

Just depends. I've got some construction going on and have a shite ton of leftover lumber I can piece together for a couple stands. But it sure is nice just to haul one out and put it up. Especially when my lazy arse pays my nephews to do it or make 'em do it for "hunting rights" Gotta teach them frickers some work ethic. Built I won't let them build shite. Not very handy. Would be a death trap if they survived the build themselves.

I bought the box then built the tower to put it on. I can't remember the name brand but it is made out of molded plastic with fold up plexiglass windows.

I had to haul everything thing in on my ranger and assemble it on sight. It was light weight and pretty easy to put up. I did it by myself in one evening.

If you own the land or plan on leasing the land/have leased the land for a long time build one. We have 3 custom built box blinds that have been standing since 1998. We have ladder stands scattered throughout as well.

4x6 is plenty big enough for two people . We have bought 4 box stands from daniels deer stands in st. francisville and all are holding up well. Check out his website . Good bang for the buck . You can get 3 of his blinds with brackets for the price of one fiberglass blind . I personally like the wood braces instead of the brackets .

We built 3 stands (4' X 6') before this season. Treated wood, fabric roof, tinted windows. Assembled, painted etc, plus 4' platforms to put the stands on. Total cost was about $750.

By the way 4' X 6' is plenty big enough for two grown adults. 4' X 8' is overkill if you ask me.

Don't build it 4-6. I'd go 5-6 that way u have plenty of room to put a comfy office chair and spin as needed

If you design it right it's not hard to move a wood one. Assemble walls separately, floor, and tin roof. Build tower or however you're gonna rig it in a tree first, then put floor, put two walls together on the ground, pull up and install to floor. Pull up each of the other 2 walls one at a time and screw in. Install roof.

It's not like you're gonna be moving a box blind around enough to be worth a grand to save the time it takes to remove some extra screws.

That said, I hate hunting boxes, and I like not spending money on something I can make good enough myself.
