Tom Cruise was never nominated for Tropic Thunder...look on IMDB or Topic Thunder's
site.

I went to the Oscar wiki site and looked up 2008.

Cruise was nominated for a Golden Globe as Les but not an Oscar.

For those saying Ledger only won because he died, this is who he beat. He was more than deserving.

Tom Cruise -Tropic Thunder as Les Grossman

Robert Downey, Jr. - Tropic Thunder as Kirk Lazarus

Ralph Fiennes -The Duchess as William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire

Philip Seymour Hoffman - Doubtas Father Brendan Flynn

I'm not disputing that his was the best performance out of those, I'm just saying the deck was ind of sacked in his favor to begin with.

I agree with everything you said.

Every aspect of Titanic was extremely well done.

I believe it to be Cameron's Magnum Opus.

You think Titanic is the best thing Cameron has ever done?

Terminator
Aliens
T2
True Lies

All better in every aspect other than maybe special effects only because they're a decade older than Titanic.

What risks did Titanic take?

Uh...for one, Cameron risked his whole career on what was, at least at that time, the most expensive movie ever produced. It was supposed to be released in the summer of 1997 but shooting delays and problems with post-production forced the studio to move back the release date to December. It was running insanely over budget because they actually built a life-sized replica of the thing, plus numerous large scale models in various stages of sinking. The computer effects were state-of-the-art and were taking longer than previously thought to complete. Plus, many of the visual effects artists were having trouble making the CGI look as realistic as Cameron wanted it.

He also had to balance out a large cast of characters, plus thousands of extras and expertly direct them so as to make everything in every shot look as real and as authentic as possible. The end product was one of the greatest technical achievements made by a film in the last 30 years. Cameron pulled it off when everyone said he couldn't. Good Will Hunting and, to a lesser extent, L.A. Confidential, were two indie films that were well crafted and scripted, but did not take the risks Cameron took with making Titanic.

Most of your points were obnoxious and unfounded. They didn't deserve a response.

Okay. You're just too dumb to address them. Thanks for clearing that up.

All action movies. Great action movies, but still action films.

Shows what you prefer.

I believe his top two are The Abyss and Titanic.

I don't think its that simple, but Ledger's death definitely added a lot of hype to the role before it even premiered.
I think this is where the truth lies.

Of course.

People were saying the role fricked him up so much that he ODed because he needed drugs to cope with what being the Joker was doing to him.

Specifically remember the thread on here being titled "did the joker role kill Ledger?"

That was a generational performance.

Any chance you could give me a few other movies with similar stature?
thanks

Exacty!

When I knew nothing about the Nolan Batman movies or cared to watch them I stupidly just assumed Heath Ledger won because of what happened to him. How people feel sorry if or view people more legendary after tragedy..

However, once I finally watched the trilogy I finally understood the praise he got. He was more than deserving of not only the nomination, but he definitely deserved to win. Period. Regardless.

I still prefer Batman Begins most because it's what drew me in to want to finish the trilogy. I absolutely enjoyed it. My only complaint with The Dark Knight was the changing of casting of Rachel. It stood out too much for me to not be bothered by it. Katie Holmes who is usually a terrible actress was Perfect as Rachel!

Getting back to Heath Ledger though, He was beyond outstanding!
