It has been a while since I've updated my resume. I've noticed that on all the new resume templates in Word, there's a section for Objective.

What in the actual frick? My objective is to get a fricking job with whoever I'm sending a resume to. Is this a real question? What kind of dumb information is HR looking for on this one?

I just usually put "greatness" there

That's pretty good actually. I was thinking about deleting the section because I thought it was ridiculous.

I use the Objectives section to show that I have ambition to move up in the company.

Whaa? That section's been around for ages. Usually for those with little to no work experience who need to waste some white space.

yes, the "objectives" section of the resume is similar to the "directions for use" on medication where it states: "follow all directions for use"

Pointless.

Get ready for the interview when they ask you, "Why do you want to work here?" "Why do you want this job?"

The correct answer is, "I've got to eat and have somewhere to crash, a-hole," but don't use it.

Gotta be careful with this. Lots of jobs not looking for someone who is using the position as a stepping stone.. Even though they should know everyone wants to move up.

im job hunting and most advice i have gotten recently is to leave out the objective.

i used to use it, like someone said, for a couple of lines since i am a recent college grad, but i managed to fill them with relatively useful information so i got rid of the objective.

I haven't had a problem with it so far. That being said, when they ask me where I see myself in 5/10 years, I also say "What's your position? Yes, the one above that."

I don't hide my ambition well, so I decided to be open about moving up in said companies I apply at.

If you are able to upload a word resume, a recruiter told me to put a thin black line (that is really a single row table) between the name & contact section and the body.

In that line type every possible keyword you can in black font. That way the job site's keyword search engine will sort your resume for human review but they won't see your hidden key words.

I have a short and sweet objective on my resume. I received two job offers using this resume (both for higher pay). So if you use it correctly, it works.

There should be no objective. Rather, a professional summary and core competences section as the opening.
