Wife has one. She loves it. I dont think it is extremely accurate, but it seems like it is more of a reminder to get off your arse.
mine is down to the exact mile - used a wheel to measure for my long runs back when running marathons - still have the data stored - vivofit 5/5 with the measure wheel.

Measuring of steps and general activity. The sleep information would be helpful as well. Not sure how much, if any, I would use the gps. I appreciate the responses so far.
I run between 6 to 7 miles a day and walk with my wife in the afternoon around 4 miles and I usually read out around 29,000 to 30,000 steps in a day - keeps my weight constant and I eat any thing I want - of course I'm old 71 and retired - but very active.

Maybe so. I think she's just swinging her arms sitting in a chair just to brag to me.

I have a step tracking app on my phone, so I don't need that nonsense.

Sounds like something a fat chick that's "changing her lifestyle" would wear

They are great if you actually are going to the gym and being active. Just a helpful motivator....cause you see the difference in steps/calories burned for the day on those days you go work out and those days you makes excuses not to workout.

I guess I should have been clearer. I dont know how accurate it is by mile, but you can shake your arm and accumulate "steps". I assumed that they did so many steps in a mile.

The trackers are good for sleep monitoring and reminders to get up and move around throughout the day.

But it If it's for your wife or s/o. tell them to give you a handy with the hand they wearing it on and they will get credit for taking steps. If they have the app on their phone they can watch the steps accumulate as they do their business. This really works better if they are using it for standings purposes at the office.

Well no one really "needs" one. Just a fun tool to have. Some people just like seeing all that info on a daily basis.

Every chick uses them now. I guess it's good that it makes my gf run up and down the steps at night to reach a goal.

I've done similar if it's 11 pm and I see I'm less than a thousand steps to my 10k goal.

No doubt. It keeps my kid entertained that's for sure. He walks/runs like 10 miles a day.

I could see it being great for some of these seriously overweight kids I see. Ones that just sit and play video games all day. Make it a challenge for them to get at least so many steps a day.

I have a fitbit flex, and so does my husband. Several family members have them, and we often challenge each other. It does help motivate me to increase my steps to beat my friends and family members.

If anything, it underestimates my distance. I have a pretty long stride. The treadmill will say 3 miles, but my fitbit will say 2.7. I don't mind the underestimation, though. I know I walk at least the distance shown.

I know what you mean. I'm a numbers obsessed person though when it comes to all this(my weight, my measurements, the calories I'm eating etc). A fitness band is just another way to feed into my numbers obsession. It helps me stay focused. I count calories with myfitnesspal on my phone so I can look at the calories I'm eating vs the calories the band shows I'm burning for the day to see if I have a deficit or not.

I workout everyday as well but I also have a desk job. I wear a garmin vivofit which is a lot like a fitbit, I try to get 10k steps everyday which equates to roughly 5 miles. It helps me keep motivated to move around throughout the day. I bought 2 of them and gave 1 to a buddy of mine so we can compete against each other. Nothing bad can come from being more active, even if you already feel like you're active enough
