its a beer that has to be consumed at its freshest. it cannot be aged. to me there isn't a lot of value in that. I've had it many many times. It's no different the any other DIPA on the market. People get so consumed by "rarity" it really masks what the actual concept of one beer vs another is.
I used to do exactly what you are doing. At some point you will realize the ridiculousness of it all.

Thanks for the heads up. It doesn't appear to be holding my info any more though. Strange.
I can understand the freshness argument, but it works for now since it's Mardi Gras time!

Pretty sure I know who you are too. I think we have a mutual friend and I see you around the hood from time to time...

Don't worry, my Abrasives get consumed fresh.
I split a case with someone and it has nothing to with rarity for me (especially with hoppy beers), but simply that IMO there aren't any DIPAs on local shelves right now that are on Abrasive's level.
Do you laugh when people pay $8 for a bomber of Enjoy By? Because that is more expensive per ounce than $5 pint cans of Abrasive.

The ridiculousness is people paying $100 plus shipping for a bottle of Cantillon Fou Foune.
$5 a can of a great DIPA is perfectly fine. Name one place you can get a pint of DIPA for $5 in Louisiana right now.

I agree totally. I was able to get a bunch of stuff I can't get locally at $4.25/can. More than half of them tall boys. I don't know that it qualifies as a deal, but it's worth it to get a hold of things otherwise not available.

i can't totally disagree with you in the numbers on cantillion. those things are a damn ripoff. throw that in with mikkeller, and most things belgian and the absurdity goes off the charts.

What's ridiculous to one person is not at all to the next. Some people would scoff at the idea of paying more than $10 for a six-pack of beer.
Posted on 1/30/15 at 2:19 pm to urinetrouble
I scoff at paying more than 20k for a car. To each their own though.
Posted on 1/30/15 at 2:20 pm to bigberg2000
It's $5 per beer.
It's not crazy at all when you think about it like that. Go to bulldog and pay $7 for a beer that's 4oz less and not even remotely on the lever of goodness and freshness.

I just can't believe that would be the case.

why would i be trolling? At what point in time did Surly Abrasive become the end all be all of DIPA's on earth? I've had it. It's good. Greatest there is? No
Posted on 1/30/15 at 2:27 pm to Geauxld Finger
But by your standards, mecha = abrasive.
I can get on board with that, actually.

no i don't think they are on par with each other. mecha is solid, not as good as abrasive. However, abrasive is pretty close in proximity to many other DIPA or Imperial IPA's i have had over the years.

Who here has stated that? No one is lining up for a 6oz pour of the stuff. They are ordering online.
Just curious, what DIPA would you buy in BR/NOLA today on it's level?

No, but it's probably the best one that you can purchase from a reputable website in that kind of bulk. I sure can't find a comparable DIPA on the shelves or tap lines around here right now. Ghost won't be out for another month. Even then, I'll have to drive around town at 10AM to secure a couple 4-packs at $3.50 per 12-ounce bottle after tax.
Pretty sure I can't just order a case of Heady Topper from anywhere right now.

Reminds me of the time Yeezy and I tailgated outside Steins for BCBS and Ghost.

No, it's really not. Abrasive should not be used in the same sentence as that swill
Posted on 1/30/15 at 3:08 pm to tigerfootball10
i said it was solid..as in...it's ok. its not undrinkable but it isnt my first option.
