i bought one in 2002 that is still running strong.

it has 3 features i dont see on even brand new ones that i love

- measured fill (set your coffee carafe under it at 5 cups and walk away and grind the beans while its filling)

- acceler ice. when the ice gets cleared out (we have 6 people in our household) during a hot summer day, turn this thing on and get ice much faster back

- beeps when door left open. my wife is bad about grabbing stuff out of fridge while cooking and forgetting to shut the door.

I'm have the french door with freezer on bottom. I love the french doors.

Wife doesn't like the water/ice on the door. The only bad part of freezer on bottom is the slide out basket with ice maker. Too much ice in tray and then it knocks ice to bottom and you have to fish it out to close the door.

Yeah, I hate it when that happens. I don't like the ice/water in the door because it takes up a lot of extra room. I keep refillable water bottles in the fridge so I'm not getting ice out that often anyway.

Bought one 5 years ago....ice maker sucked from day 1....and just recently started leaking water....bought a new french door whirlpool last weekend and moved the elite to the garage.

French door and it's not even close. I've had mine for three years now and can't imagine how I did without for so many years. The main attraction is that everything is spread out directly in front of you and within easy reach. There is no more dead space at the back of the bottom shelf. The pull-out freezer drawer also leaves everything visible and within easy reach. Mine has the kid-height middle drawer which I use as a meat keeper. Finally, unlike side-by-sides, it's wide enough to hold a family-size pizza box.

We have had both. French door Samsung for 3 years a it is great. Shitton more space (and we like the "chest" nature of the freezer).

Mine has these features. Very helpful with 4 kids.

When I was a kid, my house had a separate Sub-Zero fridge and freezer. I wish I could go back to that.

The OT would have a field day with a thread about knobs.

My wife didn't like the freezer at the bottom either, but mainly because it's difficult to organize. We returned it to Costco and got a side by side and she's happy with it.

My main beef with the water dispenser on the door is that the line can freeze. But I'd still rather have it, even if I need to stand there with a blow dryer trained on the door every once in a while.

We've had the French door style for 5 1/2 years. Really nice to have everything within arms reach. No more bending down to get things on the bottom shelf. You use your fridge much more than the freezer anyway.

Ours is a Samsung, and it has 2 ice makers. Would get another in a heartbeat.

side by side sucks for space. we switched from a side by side to french doors and have a lot more freezer space.
