Who knows what will become of Guild. Fender sold Guild to the Cordoba Music Group. I'm not really sure these folks even do a good job making classical guitars (their biggest production line up to this point).

If the new owners have an once of brains, they'll reissue some models that will bring the brand back....the Thunderbird and Bluesbird would be a good start.
They need to bring the manufacturing back to the US. A Korean-made model at $900+ is a tough sell when I can get the 90s Fender models (which are excellent) and even some vintage models for around the same price. They're making a huge mistake.

It looks like they're at least adding some of the old colors like green, white and black.

Gibson isn't as good as it once was but they're a hell of a lot more consistent than Fender

this is just blatantly false. ask anyone who works in a music store who puts out more consistently high quality built instruments. gibson in 2015 has major QA/QC issues from such a major brand of guitar maker.

again, i'm talking about gibson usa vs. fender usa made instruments.

rickenbacker, martin, and taylor don't have the issues gibson typically has.

I have this one:

LINK

It is fricking awesome, especially considering the price. It can easily keep pace with a LPS.

Once you get past the snobbery, it's about how the instrument truly plays/sounds.

BTW, what of the 40 y/o fella is a high earning professional and just wants to cut to the chase and get something that may help keep him interested?

Besides, great instruments that are set up well will be more enticing as they tend to stay in tune and sound better.......
