I had heard that Lee was in the dog house because he was supposed to graduate after the fall semester. He screwed something up and didn't graduate as scheduled. It cost LSU a spot for an early enrollee in the Spring.

You need to go back and watch the videos you linked in your OP. Finebaum said JJ was at Harrah's on Thursday night. The game was on Monday.

At least half the team did not think bama deserved a rematch. A team divided has zero shot

Jefferson had a horrible game against UGA going 5/13 for 30 yds but no INTs.

Then he led LSU to a 52-3 win over Mississippi, going 7-7 for 88 yds, 1 TD and NO INTs.

In other words, the idea that those 5 wins by Jefferson were some sort of indictment against his ability is absurd

Ultimately that game was such a huge watermark for the program, given the opponent. I still do not think Alabama deserved to be there, based on the merits of not winning their division, having lost at home to LSU, and not having the resume of Oklahoma State (even with the Iowa State loss). But they were clearly superior that night. I hope people can shed some more light on what they have heard to explain what happened behind the scenes.

They should not have been there. Even the BCS website explained that bowl season was a reward for a teams regular season. How in the hell was a rematch a reward for LSU.

That year brought us BS catch phrases like "Eyeball test" "Two best teams" "Just looks the part" and ultimately it led to a playoff.

Bama was playing with house money in that game.

A water mark for the program? It was a shite stain for CFB.

No matter now ......cause of the playoff system.

What matters now is scheduling equality because that is how team will or won't make the playoff.

Something else that seems to be in bamas favor.

Why? We want to know.

We want to know but we're not going to find out from this thread. WildTchopitoulas is probably the closest to the truth.

Word was the staff changed the game plan, so there is that.

Let's get something straight, Jefferson came in at the beginning of the 2nd qtr after Lee had thrown an interception. I

Bullfrickinshit!!

JJ came in on LSUs 5th offensive play, after JL was 2/2 for 19 yds.

No other coach in the nation puts in the backup qb to pick up a 1st down, during the first series

Miles did everything under the sun to undermine Lee once JJ returned. He got what he wanted, and it will be forever part of his legacy: the worst offensive performance in the now defunct BCSCG

Wow I guess getting into the BCS championship game is not enough. Just like Ricky Bobby says " if your not first your last"

Well I guess this year Bama finished last

I watched the game and Bama beat LSU but was not a runaway loss. LSU looked flat and outcoached a tad but it really boiled down down to QB play or lack of being the difference just like this year

We all need to let it go and move on, beginning to be ancient history

Les Miles, and the players of that 2011 season, gave to me and other LSU fans the most glorious regular season we have ever seen. We saw repeated utter dismantlings of very good football teams, and that was despite players getting kicked off for fake weed, fighting, what have you. Nothing seemed to matter.....another week, another beating. Sure, there were slow starts, and a little ugliness here and there, but look back at the schedule. Notwithstanding Bama, games outcomes were decided early.

I have never played major sports, so I do not what goes through a competitors mind when something like a rematch against a team that you beat on tbeir own field is announced. As a fan though, it felt like a punch to the gut, because we all knew that Bama was the only team close to us.

Being told we've got to jump that hurdle twice? Deep down, I knew it wasn't meant to be. Deep down, I knew the media and powers that be had anointed them and their coach. Our players new that too. That's why we lost.

This is what I saw in that game. LSU clearly hurt Bama in the first game with the option to Ford. In that game, Bama OLB attacked JJ and he pitched it to Ford for good yardage. In the second game, this strategy changed. The DC for the Saints apparently told Saban to not attack JJ on the option. He had Saban stop the OLBs and wait for JJ's decision. JJ should have ran toward them but unfortunately he stopped as well destroying the timing of the play as Ford kept running as he should have, making a pitch worthless as the pitch angle was screwed and Bama had time to get to either JJ or Ford.

Offensively, after the LSU game in the regular season...Bama was ground and pound. It didn't work against LSU in the Game of the Century. Bama threw the ball on first down 22 of their first 26 first downs. Mostly short passes to TEs for 3 to 8 yards.

At that point, they could go back to ground and pound. That threw about 4 passes more than 20 yards all game and Norwood caught 3 of them despite good coverage.

Finally, Bama's effective play in the first game was to throw screen passes to Trent in the flat and mini wheel routes. LSU did shut that down.

Bama actually won the STs despite LSU dominating in the first game.

I guess this game is emblazoned on me, because just once in my life, I wanted to see an undefeated NC from LSU.

This. Whether it was entirely intentional or not, we will never know. The bottom line is that Lee was never the same after JJ came back. His confidence was shaken because he knew that if he made even one mistake, it was over. I remarked to friends that until JJ came back, there was a looseness and ease to the way the team was playing. It really looked like they were having fun out there. Once JJ came back, that all went away. We were still winning, but we started to struggle more. It didn't seem like things were clicking like they were in the first part of the season.
