I am looking into buying my first home and have used several sites to do the same search but would like to streamline it as much as possible. I haven't gotten an agent yet so I don't have access to seeing what's on the MLS. Does anyone have a recommendation on what site would be best to use that will show the most houses, regardless of what agency it is through?

Thanks

Zillow and Trulia are good places to start and have nice information. But just remember that these are not always the most up to date and some of the houses will not still be available.

Get your realtor to send you MLS updates on houses matching what you want in a house and in certain areas.

If you know a particular subdivision you are looking for, the Latter and Blum website wills search this way.

I've done some searching on Zillow and Trulia and about 40% of the houses that meet the criteria I search for end up off the market already so I kind of spin my wheels using that site.

I want to use a realtor but I really don't want to be bothered by them two or three times a week. I'd rather do a lot of the front end leg work on my own and at my own time

Houston has a site called HAR that is the most up to date. I would try to find something similar in your area.

Then use Zillow and Trulia to get ideas as to areas you want to be in, school ratings, cost analysis, etc.

Give some of this information to your realtor and have them only bug you with houses that might actually appeal to you. The more info you give the realtor (i.e. links to houses you found on Zillow and appeal to you), the better the realtor can hone in on relevant houses.

Some cites have MLS listings that anyone can look at. Try searching for that site. Seems that most of these up to date listings in Nashville are only accessible to realtors (at least I haven't seen it anywhere else yet).

Zillow, realtor.com, fsbo.com

Use them all, often.

Zillow is almost always outdated. Best bet is realtor.com or find a local real estate agents website like greaterbrhomes

If you're in BR, I found CJ Browns website easy to use when it works correctly.

Redfin is excellent. I've found it to be better than Realtor and Zillow. Also, their android app is great.

I have yet to find a good site that lists them all. The MLS site has a lot of listings but I don't like the use of it. Realtor.com seems to miss some realtor-listed houses. Zillow and Trulia seem out of date a lot. FSBO can be great in some areas and terrible in others. And then, of course, there are still a fair number of sellers that don't list their house online at all.

Of course... the house I am under contract to buy, I found on... facebook. It's a FSBO home, and the seller set up a FB page for it, and it got passed around several friends until someone reccomended I like it, and it went from there.

realtor.com is excellent. Trulia and Zillow can be useful, but I think realtor is more streamlined and professional.

this is the best answer, but i will say that MOST of zillow and trulia's listings are outdated, at least in the los angeles area.

What are you looking for. I just put my house up for sale in Lafayette.

I was a realtor in Lafayette for many years but live in Houston now. You may want to check forsalebyowner.com also. I put mine on it since I'm inactive right now.
