Wanna start off by saying congrats to Grimes and company for a very good pull, and I'm as excited as everyone else but I'm a bit confused on his academic situation. Can anyone shed some light? Not a downer just curious, still a great day for LSU none the less

Well qualify or not he's no risk to take and all benefit, was just curious simply because I would love him to see the field in 2015

If he qualifies, he's probably going to redshirt

I heard his grade issues have been blown way out of proportion. At the very worst it'll be a Travante Valentine sorta scenario, but I doubt it even gets that bad.

Did Coach Steele work with the athletic affairs or some such program at "Bama? Maybe he knows a trick or two in getting recruits qualified.

Stop whining; it's a good question. Do you understand the purpose of message boards?

is it to answer stupid questions?

If he doesn't qualify he doesn't get to play. he will either go to a JUCO or a prep school.

This isn't new.

He will qualify to get into school...

But if he's eligible to play his freshman year and what not, that's a diff story. Could be a similar situation to Valentine.

Regardless, it's a low risk - high reward for us. I mean it's not like he would be starting next season for us anyways considering who we have coming back and quality depth. And he will still be in the program and working out and getting the playbook down and coached up and all that.

This was a HUGE get.

So many conflicting reports on exactly how bad his grades really are. Some say its transcripts, most say he lacks core classes and a test score. Really depends how bad they are. shite Barrow on 247 says there may be a chance he never qualifies for college.

So the possible options are

JC for 2 years
Prep school(won't be hargrave, they shut down football)
Comes to LSU in the Travonte Valentine plan.

We will see in August unless its JC then probably sooner

There is an issue with his grades from Nigeria, and he made a fairly low score to start off. (ETA: And, as others have said, there is a question of core courses). However, there is plenty of time to fix all of that - assuming it is fixable. I think it is too close to say, "He'll qualify" - especially as confident as I was about Valentine last year.

However, now that there will be P5 school working on it - he'll be doing recommended test prep, online course, summer school - whatever that can be done to get qualified by August will get done. It is a calculated risk, but worth it for a player of this caliber.

Speaking of T Valentine, I wasn't his biggest fan when he decommitted I believe twice (with 2 other schools) before signing with LSU. Having said that, I think he deserves a lot of credit for CVO committing to LSU and also sticking it out in what has to be a world record duration academics issue when the NCAA cleared the guy before the start of the 2014 football season.

To T Valentine all around!

I think it will be exactly like T. Valentine. We have starting OT's for this year anyway. He will get to LSU and get to work in school and still be able to practice. Then next season he can step in. It's win win for the kid and LSU. And all year long we will face people asking what the deal is with him and will he play or will he redshirt. People were still starting those threads about TV up to the bowl game.

We need him to redshirt anyway. He needs to learn the technique of the position. If he qualifies for school, he will be able to practice the whole year like T. Valentine. As of right now, I think he'll be starting at a tackle spot after Pocic's senior year. So two years from now.
