It's Phillips' second stint in the position, as he was also the Broncos' defensive coordinator from 1989-92. After the 1992 season, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen fired Dan Reeves and wanted to replace him with Mike Shanahan as head coach.

But when Shanahan didn't feel the timing was right. Bowlen hired Phillips. He lasted two seasons, posting a 16-16 record, and was replaced by Shanahan in 1995.

You now have former player/coaches Gary Kubiak (HC) and Rick Dennison (OC) as well as former DC and HC Phillips brought in by former player Elway.

Very incestual. This will either be a spectacular success or failure.

...I apologize to the MSB for my insensitive description of Josh McDaniels in the post I made on this subject last night.

Wade is a master of the 3-4 defense, not to mention already known to Elway. I don't see a problem here.

Von and Ware at OLB in that 3-4 could be pretty nasty

His team's tend to have amazing first seasons under him. If Peyton was himself the Broncos would be my SB pick

They already had John Fox and Jack Del Rio together?

I don't see the issue.

Wade is a good DC. Nothing wrong with that hire

Won't they have to cut some guys loose off the D to make cap? I could see them going like 12-4 next year but I just don't see Kubes winning big games against teams like New England and Baltimore in the playoffs

They have 28 million in cap space, which is 8th best in the league. I don't know where everyone gets the idea they're in cap hell. They're not.

Neither do I. Just pointing out the number of former players and coaches brought back.

I think Wade Phillips is a good hire.

But I think there is a law saying that a Phillips, Ryan, Schottenheimer, Shanahan, Turner, Harbaugh and Gruden must be employed by the NFL at all times.

People tend to hire people they know, all other things being equal.

I honestly forgot he was their HC

I was just referring to Phillips tendency to dominate year one and then fall off. A healthy Peyton Manning could have taken at least one of those Texans teams to a Super Bowl.

Big difference between a QB that is reliant on the coach (Schaub, Yates) and a QB who is a coach himself IMO

If you're facing the Bengals in the playoffs, Kubiak and Phillips are definitely the way to go!

False. Peyton/Ware/Welker are the only old big name players on the team. Everyone else is relatively young.
