No, the movie was historically accurate, however it was not based on a true story.

ETA: I really enjoyed the movie.

Watched it two nights ago and thought it was alright.

I couldn't get over the Star Wars lasers they were shooting.

I assume, or at least hope, that you're referring to the previous thread about this movie on the topic of tracer rounds.

They mentioned in the movie it was every 5th shot, but it looked like it was every single one.

Without seeing the movie, if it's every 5th round in a gun that shoots 600 rounds/min, they come out pretty often.

No.

And thought it was more than a bit ridiculous, esp. the ending- typical Hollywood WWII crap.

4 of the 5 crew members die in the final scene..how is that Hollywood? I always thought a "Hollywood ending" was an improbable happy ending.

No, but some parts were a bit reminiscent of Audie Murphy's Medal of Honor commendation.

Didn't they hold off an entire SS division for a while with a busted tank before that? That's probably the Hollywood crap part he's referring to

Possible Spoilers

More like a reinforced company or under strength battalion. Considering the final battle lasted say 10 minutes that is hardly a hiccup of a fight. My complaint with the battle was more to the fact that a tank would NOT want to lure infantry close. A tank wants infantry at a distance way to close for a panzerfaust or panzerschrek to hit them, let alone a magnetic anti-tank mine. Overall though I liked the movie a lot. I especially liked the battle vs the Tiger and the assault with the infantry.

Really good movie and Shia deserved a best supporting actor nod for his role. Really stole every scene he was in.

Yeah, I haven't seen it since theaters, so it's been a while and the ending was fuzzy in my memory. Thanks.

If you've ever seen heavy-caliber machine gun fire with tracers, it looks a lot like that. Those rounds are moving.
