How about focusing on distracted driving?

I drive the causeway 4 times a week and the amount of people texting, reading, etc. is near 1 of 4 that I pass (I go reverse flow so I am not in heavy traffic). They are easy to spot due to the drifting nature of the car within the lane.

...Yet the cops just sit their lazy asses at the crossovers and wait for a driver going 73 to drive into their "radar net".

This is an expensive, tax payer funded move done for PR that will have zero effect on the annual number of vehicles that end up in the water. If you don't think so, just check the stats in a couple years. They will actually probably be worse as the number of distracted/texting drivers is rising.

This move by the Causeway commission and the LSP is a disgusting waste of money.

probably done for public safety and not a revenue stream.

After the first few times it will act as a deterrent. Something needs to be done to cut down on the accidents and this is probably the cheapest option.

the speeders are busy watching what they are doing and looking for cops. the assholes going 67 with their phones up in front of the speedometers watching movies are the problem.

Exactly. Speeders on a two lane straight bridge over water are not the issue here. It's the idiots texting and generally ignoring their surroundings that end up in preposterous situations like going over the railings. This endeavor seems like a total waste of resources.

My grandfather got rear ended going southbound in 1989. Almost went over the side.

The woman wasn't texting. Lord knows what she was she was doing. But it wasn't texting.

Good. I've been saying for years that the Causeway is a haven for drag racers and speed demons.

I have traveled the elevated part of I 55 from Ponchatoula to Laplace a few times in the last month - they were in the air at least 3 times - would be waiting at the Manchac exit - three or four white suv's - must be practicing.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that they couldn't fund the Trooers raises fully due to budget (they haven't had a raise in 10 years so it was needed) but they have money for this? I bet the Troopers are as pissed as we are about it.

The raises being reduced was more political in nature than financial. 99% of people commenting on their raise situation have no clue.

Also, I am sure this is money that is being used from federal grants or funding.

And lastly, LSP makes no money on tickets they write. All common knowledge that can be found online.

Two things.

1. This is the OT so take your facts and reasonable responses elsewhere.

2. How can you be on the site since 2013 with 8 posts? It's not like you used an alter to make that reasoned response.

They should get involved a little more.

Well they can't just show up in NOLA and say "hey we're here guys!" They actually have to be requested and the governor has to approve of it, hence the whole thing about the Mayor asking for LSP to be allowed to stay.

Idiotic

If they wanted to stop speeding put 2 cameras on the bridge- one at front one at end. Cars hitting the second camera in less than a certain time were speeding.
I'm not for this, but seems as if it would be cheaper than a plane

Wasn't air patrolling for speeders founder to be highly cost ineffective in other states like Virginia?

Apparently the state of Louisiana gives zero fricks about fuel efficiency.

Blame from the common man towards the fed for the grants they give out. I agree.

But LSP doesn't make any revenue from speeding tickets, so there is no way to see it as cost ineffective.
