I just got ticketed for going 51 in a 35 and I know for a fact I wasn't going that fast. There was a guy coming up behind me and defiantly stayed at 40 instead of speeding up to appease him. Granted 40 in a 35 is still technically speeding...but what are my options here besides just paying the ticket?

Go talk to prosecutor. They will most likely reduce it to non-moving.

On your court date that's listed on the ticket.

just go in and demand to see him immediately. I'm sure he has nothing better to do than to deal with someone who was only going 40 in a 35 instead of 51. he should understand you were only kinda breaking the law.

It's his or her (you sexist) job to get as much taken care of before the judge takes the bench, speeding tickets included.

ETA: And that's kind of the point of going to court. They don't want to waste any time on a speeding ticket, so they often reduce it.

Yes, I speed. Yes, i've been caught, but I manned the frick up and owned my violation. Quit trying to fight it and just pay up.

That's what I'll probably end up doing. I'm just venting because I know I wasn't going 51. I'll just consider it karma for all the times I actually was speeding and didn't get caught.

Not much you can do, but I would contact the local DA's office and ask them if they would change your violation to a non-moving violation. This won't be quite as expensive as an MV and won't go on your insurance.

Good luck!
