Well, they lifted from The Invisibles and various Asian anime and films. It was a mash-up of awesome ideas and visuals from works that the general public wasn't familiar with.

175 million? That's insane

The producers must have been smoking fricking crack when they decided to give their money to this. I haven't heard from anyone that they're excited about this. Not that that's surprising. Cloud Atlas bombed, too, and that had Halle Berry and Tom fricking Hanks in it. You think a space-capade starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum is going to bring in the dollars? Good Lord...

Here's the Time Article on the Supposed $1 Billion Sophia Stewart Lawsuit

quote:

In the case of a lawsuit filed in 2003 claiming damages, Stewart alleged that the idea of the 1984 film The Terminator and the 1999 film The Matrix were stolen from her own screen treatment entitled “The Third Eye,” which was copyrighted in 1983. The documents show that Stewart claimed she was defrauded of $200 million, plus royalties, a hefty sum if she could prove that the Wachowskis and Cameron had ripped her off. On her website, where she dubs herself “The Mother of the Matrix,” Stewart says she answered a magazine ad in 1986 that said the Wachowskis were soliciting science fiction stories to be made into a comic book, but after she sent it she never heard from the defendants.

But the courts do not believe that her work was plagiarized by the Wachowskis or Cameron. The ruling from Morrow held that “plaintiff Sophia Stewart take nothing by way of her complaint against defendants…” Stewart reportedly failed to show up for her court date, but she denies any failure. The lawsuit was dismissed with the judge ruling Stewart and her attorneys “had not entered any evidence to bolster its key claims or demonstrated any striking similarity between her work and the accused directors’ films,” according to Snopes. The defendants were awarded $305,235.62 in attorney fees, but Stewart said they never collected.

She still claims she was robbed of her ideas and has a website dedicated to it, but who knows? She could just be a loon. Apparently, the courts seem to think so.

To be fair, it didn't say anyone walked out in the story

Despite the hype of a secret screening, clusters of seats inside the 300-person venue remained empty, and a handful of patrons walked out of the two-hour-plus space epic starring Mila Kunis as a princess and Channing Tatum as an intergalactic soldier tasked with rescuing her.

Their Ninja movie was shite also. I think waves of thousands of throwing stars were flying from the opening credits til the end. The ninjas must have all needed Tommy John surgery after that movie.

Bound was pretty good.
The Matrix was awesome and groundbreaking.
The Matrix sequels sucked donkey arse.
Speed Racer was a giant waste of money.
Cloud Atlas was nuts and too long, but entertaining.
I don't care what kind of reviews this movie gets, I'm gonna get lifted and watch it when it hits Redbox or HBO

I really wish they would take on a superhero movie. At one point, there were rumors they would direct the Justice League movie. I think that would be a good move for them. Lord knows they could handle the action and the big special effects.

But the Sundance context is weird. There were so many people in the audience scoffing and sneering. They are forgetting they are watching a movie targeted primarily to teenage boys. I’m sure those 15-year-old boys, and hopefully girls, will like it.

So Sundance is like the IRL version of the M/TV board on TD.
