DCUO Forums melted down, I survived to tell the tale

DCUO posted at the beginning of the year that they were doing a purge of all names on accounts that hadn't been logged into since July 20, 2013 sometime this month and that it would free up some 10-20 million names (characters weren't deleted, just had an addendum put on their name).
People cheered.
The date for the change was to be a week ago, but come about 6pm there was no downtime and no announcement until Mepps posted the change would be next week (ie: today). People grumbled, but were content.
Today the magic day happened. Names were released and all looked to be right with the pixelated world... until people started getting odd error messages about cross-platform issues.
Mepps (SOE's community relations person for DCUO) made an off-handed comment in a complaint thread that the error was due to the PS and PC name databases were being consolidated by region (ie: US & Europe) so both platforms would be trying for the same names.
And that was when Hell was unleashed on the forums.
People typed in all caps, posted angry rants and pics, made all sorts of wild claims, gnashed teeth, beat children and molested puppies. It was chaos.
During this time Mepps was making very quick answers to various posts, and probably getting his arse chewed for inadvertently releasing info that wasn't supposed to be released yet. So now he had to save face, not just for him but for the game and the company.
He made another post to explain why they did this: they are working on merging the game servers so that FINALLY PS and PC people will be playing together.
And suddenly there was joy.
tl;dr - gamers can be highly bi-polar.

What does this have to do with Half Life 3?

I bet there were still some holdouts trying to find something else to be mad about, out of embarrassment for overreacting initially. Similar to a toddler.

Does a teddy bear have cotton balls?
They've been pretty much shut down by all the individual posts asking questions about how/when such a merger would happen.

USPS server is the most populated by far. You'll have plenty of folks to interact with and things to do. Once you get through with the level 1-30 part (which is pretty much just a trainer to get you ready for the rest of the game), start focusing on Skill Points. They make a difference.
If you have questions, let me know.

My main is a CR110 Ice Tank. Getting all 97 gear is frustrating to say the least.

Fire tank since Beta, been cranking out the WoTL2 content like crazy to get both my Tank and DPS builds as high as possible before Amazon Fury Pt2 is released. Ran the Halls of Hades raid on Test, it's a LOT of fun but there was definitely challenge to it even with fully modded T7 & the 180+SP my Test character has. It's going to be a doozy of a raid for folks until they are fully geared.

PC, but I'm in the field until March.
The Love and War raid doesn't drop much.
I prefer Ice because you can neutralize debuffs really quickly and its AoE shields.

Gotcha
I created a custom hero that's basically a mix of green lantern, green arrow, and superman with light being my power of choice and bow being my weapon. Pretty fun so far. The flying mechanics are a little annoying though. Wish I had more time to play it but school isn't allowing much free time.

When I played, my main pastime was flying as high as you can as fast as you can and then turning off flight and trying to land in the circles

If you're on PC you can still use an XBox controller (which is strange for a Sony game). I've tried using a PS controller on PC and it works, but it had some funky issues (whereas the XBox one does not).
Unlike most other games there is no damage from falling in DCUO. While that can take some getting used to for long-term MMO'rs, it's really fun ;)

The weapon you use doesn't really matter, except that rifle is a HORRIBLE tank weapon.
You can reset your skills and powers once you hit level 10.
I have Hand Blaster, but I can tank well with dual wield and martial arts as well.
