Well seeing that your sons head is too big to fit through naturally, and the doctor has to literally cut her open more, it sort of changes things for a bit. I was just glad that the recovery period was like 6 weeks

Yep! I tried to take part in as much of the birth as possible. Pretty damn amazing thing.

(BTW, the birth of a human being is truly an event worthy of the adjective "amazing".)

Dads, did you do it when your baby was born or did the doctor handle it?

all three times. on the last one I cut, tied in a knot, and soldered each end of the tubes as all of that was laying on her stomach

I did for my daughter. For my son, it was wrapped around his neck so the doctor cut it. Cutting my daughter's was really cool. I wish I could have done it for my son.

Yes. They just handed me the scissors and didn't even ask. It was a cool experience.

It was a bloody mess down there, like my wife's guts had been blown to shreds by a hand grenade. I took the scissors from the doctor, a grim smile on my face that was quite at variance with that scene of visceral holocaust, and proceeded to the task ...

I didn't.

They offered and I said no.

I would not do it for the next one either.

I'm not gonna lie, it made me picture a baby walking around with this:

Also, hold the cord above the baby when cutting or they could bleed out.

they clamp both sides about an inch apart and you cut there.

Yes on the first daughter but no on the second because it was wrapped around her neck. Thankfully it wasn't too serious and she was fine.
