This and 12 monkeys are his best roles IMO. Honorable mention to Snatch.

Not a huge BP fan, but my vote is for Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I'm aware of that. I wasn't asking what his best work overall was. Was curious as to what people thought between the two performances that were earlier in his career and roughly around the same time.

I would put LotF up there with his best. He was incredible and the movie is one of my favorites.

Obviously, he was amazing in the famous climax,

You thought "what's in the boooxxxxx" was amazing? We've panned that line for years because the delivery was so cheezy.

Meh.

Meh.

His best performances are Benjamin Button, Floyd in True Romance and his role in 12 Monkeys. (ETA: And Inglorious Basterds - forget about that one because he was so unexpectedly good - I forget it was him.)

(Additional Edit - I have not seen Snatch).

A River Runs Through It is my favorite. But for your choices, I would say Se7en

Fight Club.

If I had to pick between those two, I would pick Se7en. He's practically laconic in Legends of the Fall. It's a solid movie. I see why women love it. But there's nothing all that special about the performance.

The movie kinda pissed me off. Not nearly enough of his character. While Shoshanna was pretty and all, I hated the war hero part. More Pitt would have been great.
