Today's Jeopardy was as tragic as I can remember

SPOILERS if you haven't seen it:
After answering about 75% of all the questions, one of the challengers had a $21,000 to $6200 lead over the defending champion.
As luck would have it, the champion answered the second to last question, then the last question was the last DAILY DOUBLE. Trailing by exactly $14,000 she said "well, I guess I have to make this a true daily double". She identified Wedgwood pottery correctly and then the final buzzer rang.
Now the score was $21k to $14k and the final Jeopardy category was "Oscar Winning Actors".
When asked for her answer she got it wrong, but she had wagered ZERO. The camera then panned over to the guy with $21k and you could tell he was sweating bullets. Sure enough, he got the answer wrong and then revealed that his bet was $7001, which means that he lost by a dollar. Now, he was not a sore loser or anything, but he had the most stunned look I've ever seen on a Jeopardy contestant. He's probably one of the most talented losers, too.

Can we get a summary on the off chance we missed it?

What was the final question/answer?

Jeopardy is still a thing? I don't believe you. Next you're going to tell me they still do wheel of fortune.

One of two actors who twice won Best Actor within a movie that won Best Picture.

I imagine Jeopardy is a cash cow.

Well what was the answer
And that was smart playing by both of them
I don't think I even knew you could bet zero

That's awful! Damn!

Tom Hanks is one, correct?

I think it was last week I was watching. The defending champion had stayed in the red most of the game and had won just enough to get himself out and have a few hundred dollars to wager going into Final Jeopardy. The category was "Candy" and both of the other contestants were ahead by a few thousand dollars. The question was which candy bar originally used a Fleur Di Lis(sp?) as its logo with a phrase underneath saying "Fun For All." So the defending champ answers correctly and has wagered everything except for like a dollar I think. The two others missed and had both wagered everything.

Just watched it. He really fricked up. No reason to bet that extra dollar. If they had tied at either $14,000 or $28,000 they each get to keep it. He will be kicking himself for a long time.

I knew Brando was one.
Didnt know Hoffman.

What was the answer? My guess would probably be Tom Hanks and Jack Nicholson.

This right here.
He was better than her anyway, might as well face her again tomorrow.
If any of you are ever on this show, take note! (although that was a pretty odd score to be up by half of her max score).

He was waaaay better. All throughout the program I was thinking "this guy is sharp. He's going to be a multiple champion". Then he screwed up his wager.

It was a tough question because Dustin Hoffman didn't deserve either of those awards, nor did those movies... so you tend to want to block that out.

Do you watch jeopardy daily?
Also, I agree with you on 1979 but 1988? That was a really weak year for cinema. I don't know what else should have won other than Rain Man/Hoffman.

Marlon Brando and Dustin Hoffman.
I never would have guessed Hoffman.
