Here is a pretty good writeup from a Dallas Morning News journalist. (Just ignore the TCU bias)

Good article. That said it's a good thing the author didn't talk about MLS and how the socialism moniker probably applies there even more so than in the NFL.

I'll still never understand how people can hate a sport so much. It's not like the sport has done anything to them personally.

You mean like racists and those who hate gay people?

I guess I shouldn't be so surprised...

I just want to take a moment and thank Chicken and the other admins for giving soccer a separate board.

Insecure that soccer will eventually "takeover" their favorite sport, whatever that may be.

Pretty silly, IYAM

I played soccer when I was super young, and I grew up in Texas where obviously football is king. My high school wasn't huge, I graduated with 150 people and we didn't have soccer until my senior year. I played football, basketball, track and baseball and was never into soccer until the 2006 World Cup. It depends a lot on how you're raised, my dad hates soccer and never let me player after like age 5. He never considered it an actual sport and made me focus on football and other sports. I never really gave soccer the time of day until the World Cup that year and I'll never regret doing it. It's one of my favorite sports now and I can say this with confidence that whenever I have kids they can play whatever they want, but I'm definitely planning on making soccer a focus in their life.
