I'm still trying to figure this whole XBMC/Kodi thing out. I followed the instructions on a couple of youtube channels I found and figured out how to get Kodi (this seems to be what it's called now, right?) on my android phone. Videos also showed how to stream it directly to my Chromecast and add a couple of add-ons like Genesis.

But surely Genesis is not legal, right? I mean, I found a whole bunch of movies on there that are still in the theater, and the streams actually work. I was able to start watching Gone Girl (just to test to see if it actually would work), and sure enough it started playing the movie.

Am I now going to get a letter from Comcast or some movie studio? Can an ISP even see what you stream while on Kodi, or do people use this service because they can easily get movies without having to illegally download them? I'm so confused.

It is sort of scary. I'm worried about getting busted as well but it's just so easy and convenient.

Been running XBMC for years and haven't had any "issues". Much better than torrents

So, are you saying that it should be safe to watch movies on the Genesis add-on? Keep in mind that I can't use a VPN when streaming to chromecast from my phone.

The only time I ever received a warning from my ISP was when my wife torrented a book and left it seeding after download. I don't worry about streaming one bit.

ISPs catch mostly people that are seeding. Streaming shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not going to tell you that you won't get a letter from your ISP but I haven't heard of anyone getting one just for streaming.

Does genesis only stream? Or does it work like Popcorn Time, where you are streaming but it's through a torrent which you continue to seed until you're done watching the movie and the files are removed from your cache? The latter method can get you a letter from your ISP if you don't do it safely.

I don't think so. The fire stick I'm running it on doesn't have enough space to download an HD movie. Also, the only thing I've seen about torrents are plugins that allow you to play a magnet stream as it downloads and seeds in the background (like Popcorn Time).

Navi-X is a better addon. I have a android box I run XBMC on and also have it installed on a laptop.

Can you link the guides you are using to set everything up for chromecast streaming?

I would like to know this as well. The only method I found was to use screen mirroring with chrome's cast extension, and the end result is shite.

LINK

Like I said above, I'm using Kodi (XBMC, whatever) on my andoid and just streaming it straight to the chromecast from my phone. This method works for me with no problems at all.

Wow, I can't believe hoe easy that process was. I used the guide to install xbmc and the caster, then used LINK to automatically setup all the add-ons. Within 30 minutes I was streaming the workaholicss episode that aired last night to my chromecast. Thanks.

First of all, delete Kodi from your phone and install TVMC.
It's Kodi/XBMC with tons of add ons already installed.
Genesis is one of my favorites though. You are streaming from another source. I think the law states the it isn't the person receiving the streams responsibility to know whether or not it's coming from a verified source.

All these streams are hosted all over the internet anyway. These add ons just make it easy and convenient to find and stream them.

Stop worrying and enjoy the show

Does the Firetvstick allow streaming of local files out of the box? Or do I have to have TVMC installed to do that?

How would I go about casting from my XBMC on my Mac to my Xbox One?

So I got the Fire TV and I'm running TVMC on it. Super easy setup, easier than I expected. But when I try to watch a stream from a recent episode (aired last night), I keep having buffering issues/freezing. All other stock apps work fine, so I assume it's not my network. Would it be an issue with TVMC or something else? Maybe just the servers getting overloaded for a recent episode?
