The difference between that download speed and upload speed is disturbing.

Most people don't give a damn about upload speeds because they don't upload. I would much rather have my 120 down and 12 up then something like 50 down and 50 up

Crushing it here in Chicago. This is not directly plugged into router or it would be in the 50s.

I think we only have the 50 plan, I dont even know what i would do with 800.
At what point do you need special routing and switching equipment to notice the improvement?

I suppose I'd care if I uploaded things a lot.

Should've clarified. The fiber folks with fiber-capable speeds.

This thread makes me want to cry.
My speed at home is 5.2 Down, .88 Up.
AT&T DSL FTW. Because its all I can get.

Over 100 Mbps you would need a router capable of gigabit Ethernet. The old standard was 10/100 ethernet. For WiFi, you obviously can't go over what your wired (source) speed is
Beyond that, for wifi most N routers top out around 300 mbps. Some AC routers can do up to 1400 per channel.
