I have a 51 inch TV that I need mounted on top of my mantle over the fireplace. I would like all cords to be as invisible as possible. Can anyone recommend someone in BR that does this besides Best Buy?

Home Care, an electrician.

You will have to have the bracket tho.

A chiropractor may have some recommendations. Why on earth would you put a tv that high?

My dad and I did this ourselves a couple of years ago. We installed a new outlet right behind the TV to plug everything into. No wires visible.

That area of your fireplace is a 'void'. Basically a box that goes to your attic and an exhaust pipe that runs to the roof. You can drill straight through the brick or sheetrock depending on what you have. You can go up into the attic and pull wires fairly easily.

You should have an outlet in your attic that you can tie into to run electrical for an outlet for the TV.

If you're comfortable with basic tools and electrical wiring then it's an easy job.

I'm not comfortable doing anything like this. I just want to pay someone to do it.

It would probably melt if he put it below the mantel.

That really is the best place for me to mount the TV given the way my front room is set up. Is above the mantle not an acceptable location? I've seen plenty of TV's mounted that high.

Yeah, not sure what he is talking about.

As long as your sitting a normal distance away, this shouldn't be a problem.

Just did it at my house. As long as your sitting is not to close it's totally fine. In any recently built house where the fireplace is the center focal point this is the optimal place so don't listen to the others. I did it myself because of the quotes I got were like $500-800 and I knew I could do it myself. Spliced into always hot leg in attic and added junction box and ran romex behind fireplace and installed outlet. Took about 3 hours total with bracket mount as well. Two lag screws into studs and that was it.

Only ax murderers mount their TV above a fire place.

Whatever floats your boat man. It's your tv and your house.

Above the mantle is fine as long as your seating is a reasonable distance back from the fireplace.

You can also tilt the TV down with the mount and it's fine.

That's the plan. Just have to get it up there.

You seem a little hostile man. I was just trying to save your neck muscles. If you're the kind to like sitting in the front row of a theater then by all means, have at it. You need a pretty large sized room to pull it off at that height. If you had that much room I'm guessing you'd have other mounting spots probably that would be more ergonomic and enjoyable.

really nothing wrong at all with putting a tv above a mantle.

it beats the alternative of putting it to the left or right of the mantle.
