So many upset people in here for something completely unrelated to the topic at hand.
1.) My 2 cents - I'd steer away from Mercedes just because the maintenence was a PITA.
2.) But if the post-purchase costs don't conern you, and it's what bae wants. Then by all means get her one.

I would prefer the Porsche Cayenne and the BMW x5 over the ML. The GL is nice if you are needing the extra room. The Porsche will be the more dynamic driver, the BMW in between and the Mercedes last for driving. BMW has a better maintenance program and is less expensive. I say drive them all and make an informed decision based on what features you like. Asking this board for anything is pretty much a crap shoot as far as information. I have driven them all in the v8 form. Albeit it was a couple years ago.

I've had 2 Mercedes SUV's. I did love them until.........
1. It completely turned off as I was about to pull out onto Highland at Pecue. The dash lit up like a Christmas tree! Somehow it restarted and I prayed I would make it home. It died one more time before or after that. Both always had something that the mechanics needed to check out.
2. I sat in an Infiniti SUV and what you get inside that car compared to a Mercedes was mind blowing. I've had it for 2 years now and I wouldn't want another Mercedes(I do miss my convertible sometimes).
Mercedes is lacking big time in the comfort of seats, bells and whistles, cheap looking inside. My neighbors even got rid of there sedan and got a BMW. The kids even said it was nicer.

lot of good info in here and I appreciate it, I ask because autos are just a tool to me anymore and I don't pay a lot of attention to them as I once did, heck, I drive an F-250

I'll add this, DadWafer is on his fourth or fifth BMW X5 and has yet to find something to complain about.

that would be my pick, I used to have a 5 series and it was probably the best overall car that I've had, she looked at one in between escalades and it was too small but is ready to downsize now

Mercedes is nothing but a status symbol.

Not thread related, but do you fly any routes to the middle east? Headed to Bahrain in a few weeks and am about to book my flight.

not scheduled but I've done a few military charters over there, I mainly go to Asia and Europe, with an occasional BA trip to restock the wine racks

doesn't sound encouraging, bae is on her second escalade and they've both been pieces of shite imo, particularly for what I paid for them
Then quit buying overpriced pieces of shite luxury SUV's and buy a decent product.

I'm not a huge fan of them due to reliablity and performance issues.
Resale is not all that good, iirc.
The X5, now that they've got the notorious head stud issue fixed, would be my pick. I'd drive the Porsche too, though.
