Watershed Moment for LSU Basketball - the sequel

LSU and Kentucky are scheduled for the evening of February 10. Almost 37 years ago to the day the watershed moment for LSU basketball in the Dale Brown era occurred. On the night of February 11, 1978 top ranked Kentucky headed to the national championship came calling on a young and talented but still developing LSU basketball team.
Before over 15,000 roaring fans the upstart Tigers stunned the a Wildcat team stocked with future first round NBA players. In an epic mano mano battle the Tigers prevailed in overtime despite all five starters fouling out.
Kentucky would claim the national title a few weeks later, but LSU served notice it had arrived and there would soon be a new king of the SEC hill. For the next 15 years LSU stood toe to toe with Kentucky and refused to blink including the regional title game in 1986.
That memorable evening as the horn sounded the overflow LSU students who were ringing the upper concourse stormed the court. Many long time season ticket holders shed tears of pride after so many years of futility vs the Big Blue.
Will the night of February 10, 2015 be the watershed moment for the Johnny Jones era?

That was without question the watershed moment under Dale. We had done very little of note in the 5 years previous and did not even make the NIT that year but it showed we could compete.
I remember listening to it on the radio like it was yesterday.
Would love to see a repeat.

Only if Jones can install some inbounds plays. Johnny, please look at the game film vs. Vandy and look at what they did to you. Very innovative inbound plays by the Dores.

In today's college basketball environment, Dale would have been out after five years of not being able to break through.
The NCAA tourney had only expanded to 32 teams or they may have qualified if it was a 64 team field. Still can't understand the NIT passing on them , but here were many worthy teams who did not get NCAA bids at that time.

Kenny Sky Walker was supposed to kill us.
Our 6'6 center looked him in the chest and said Forget about it.

I can still remember my dad, on his way out the door to work, woke me up the morning after this game just to give me the details.

I was at that game. The Kentucky fans we met on the way out were as polite as they could be offering congratulations and best wishes. (Not sarcasm)

I think we finished like 18-10 and 10-8 in conference and the conference in the 70's was not exactly considered a basketball conference, fairly similar in that respect to the last few years. I don't think we would have made even under the standards of todays inclusion with 68 teams.
I do remember playing Miss. State the last game of the year that year at home and they had a record very similar to ours. The feeling was the winner of that game would likely get an NIT bid.
We lost. Neither team was invited to the NIT.

I do think that's an area we can definitely improve upon. Musselman's gotta have some better stuff than we've been using from his pro days.

LSU nearly pulled the sweep last year, went aloof late in Rupp. JOB3 man-muscled them last year.

You all seem to forget LSU housed Coach Cali and his Wildcats last January in the P-Mac. The games was never even close for Kentucky as they never lead or ties from the opening tip. AND LSU took the Kats to OT in Kentucky falling by a meer one point. the 2014/15 Wildcat team is better, nit so are the 2014/15 Tigers. Cali will have his team ready but id they get caught slippin in BR they will go out losers again.
BTW I was at the game last year and the atmosphere was like the old days. It was the Def Dome...
