You're probably right. I knew it was a decimal. That 0.4 is important!

The sad thing is... it really is.

A week or so ago the Power 5 conferences bumped up the value of athletic scholarships a couple of thousand dollars.

I wonder what impact, if any, this increase will have on baseball with its limitations.

Anybody heard or read anything pertaining to baseball?

It's early, but counting Fall Ball, any comments about the new balls yet?

He wasnt very bad until the end of last season, at that point he couldnt even get an out or two without giving up a handful of runs.

Are you kidding? He couldnt even throw a strike the front part of the season. He was terrible.

He had a couple of decent outings in the middle of the season but that's it.

Nothing significant.

Baseball needs 20 scholarships at the very least. That gives enough cushion to give 4 or 5 studs full rides and dispersing the last 15 among the other 30 players. It opens things up for out of state recruits. It's actually more beneficial for a wider number of teams and less for LSU which relies heavily on in-state and tops.

Keltic,

So far the balls seem to be carrying a little better. Mainieri mentioned ball speed off the bat being around 95 mph for balls to leave the park as opposed to over 100 mph. This means that pitchers still have more time to react (safety), but balls are carrying more like they should compared to the professional level.

No, but I've only been hanging out in Tad's thread.

like most of you that have watched a lot of baseball, you kinda of know from the sound, trajectory and speed that a ball is going out. The last few years have been almost impossible to call with our "training". the two yesterday I said that's gone...........thank God the new balls have put our internal home run calling super powers back!

The bats now-a-days sound horrible. You can't tell if the ball was hit well, off the end of the bat, or what. Just a thud.

The bats that some of the other teams use still have that nice ping to them that I like.
The sound that non college baseball fans hate so much.
