The Hurt Locker Vs. American Sniper
Posted by Hugo Stiglitz on 1/24/15 at 7:50 pm23
Both are great movies but the Hurt Locker is the superior film, at least for me. The main character in the Hurt Locker seemed more genuine and you got a real feel for characters around him, there was depth. American Sniper toned down the main character from the book (real life Kyle) to make him more sympathetic and heroic, a mistake in my opinion. Characters, real or imaginary, are better with their flaws.

American sniper was just a decent movie imo. I liked lone survivor way more

I prefer Capt America for my american soldier hero cravings.

I really think Eastwood did a mediocre job at best with AS. Even on the shitty quality DVD screener I saw the CGI was atrocious. He really mailed it in. Cooper didn't disappoint, not that any one expected him to disappoint.

Liked them both
Hurt locker is better though
Lone survivor was good too. Eastwood did a good job with sniper. It's not best picture quality but a very good movie.

Good thing this movie wasn't written for that

I liked AS better. Kyle at least had an arc, Renner was pretty much the same at the end. Honestly, don't see too much difference between the two. Both good, but not great movies that I think seemed representative of what our soldiers experienced over there. For me, AS was basically part two of THL the way season two of True Detective will be to season 1...
Eta...Cooper was the much more likable lead vs. Renner. I thought AS was more moving, THL just ended where it started.

Just saw American sniper today. I thought it was good, not overly great but good. Dude could shoot.

The Hurt Locker > Lone Survivor > American Sniper

Maybe it was just me but American Sniper wasn't great and neither was Hurt Locker. I think the movies were well done but they weren't good enough to say oh yeah that was a good movie when you walked out.
To put my problems with this movie is that you never felt like Kyle was in danger. A Gold Medalist sniper is hunting you and you never really felt like he had a chance to kill Kyle.
I thought it was a hell of a tribute to the guy, he kicked but in Iraq and gave a lot back to his fellow veterans. But just judging it as a movie it wasn't great but decent.
What was better probably Hurt Locker.

Hurt locker was an unrealistic piece of shite.

Never seen AS but still don't see why people rave about The Hurt Locker.

Both are not great films. "The Hurt Locker" is lightyears better than American Sniper.

I haven't seen Sniper, but I'm kind of shocked at the responses in this thread. From the Poli board thread on it, you'd think it was Citizen Kane wrapped in The Godfather.

It's happening everywhere. People are acting like American Sniper is the greatest film of this decade. When in reality, it's one step above a "movie of the week" on a network channel.
