I was given one of these and it is by far the easiest crimper I have ever used. The ends* have a pass-thru for the wires so you don't have to mash the piss out of the wires and hope it seated correctly. Just pull them thru and the crimper will crimp and trim in one step. I personally don't make up enough cables to justify buying one, but I am glad I have it. Almost fool-proof.

**Edit to clarify**

The ends of the connectors. Platinum Tools makes special ends for the crimpers. Expensive, but worth it.

Those are what we use in my company exclusively. With the wire passing through you have to be an idiot to terminate an RJ45 head incorrectly.

(This is for the RJ45 connectors) You put the clip facing down and slide the cables in. Make sure you see cooper at end of the connector.

If you need wallplates and jacks. Cheapest place to get them is at monoprice.com

See if this helps

If you need more help, please let me know.

anyone have any advice on how to terminate Cat6a shielded wire? I've done cat5e in the past and my friend just built a house and ran 6a and I wasn't sure what connectors he needed and how to handle the shields

What I want to know is who you hired that came out and stripped and connected to that shite. I can understand that you have no idea what you're doing, had some phone plates laying around and did that, but whoever you hired to terminate CAT5 sure as hell should have known better. JEEZ!
